Spain made claims that the Falkland Islands were held under provisions in the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht which settled the limits of the Spanish Empire in the Americas

Or finally do you accept that the treaty is just an interesting historical bit of paper that is a relevant to today as are some of the 1000,s of treaties the UK has signed over the centuries.

Moody says Gib message getting through despite Spain
by Alice Mascarenhas
Spain continues to throw a spanner in the works ensuring Gibraltar does not fully benefit from its EU membership, Labour MEP for the South West region, Clare Moody has insisted. But Gibraltar’s message in Europe is getting through even if the Rock’s message needed to be repeated constantly.
In Gibraltar at the weekend, attending the British Islands and Mediterranean Region Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Conference, she admitted it “was frustrating†and that therefore the pressure needed to be kept up.

You mean with the waste of money quangos that used to exist in the UK under past Governments.
When is Gibraltar hosting next conference of the left handed ,one legged, black and Asian lesbian alliance.
Sounded like another jolly for pointless politicians,

So are you now saying as a stalwart defender of the Treaty of Utrecht that the UK should return the Falklands to Spain.
Or finally do you accept that the treaty is just an interesting historical bit of paper that is a relevant to today as are some of the 1000,s of treaties the UK has signed over the centuries.

Laughable? well not really
Local car impounded for carrying ‘One Packet’ of cigarettes!
There was no publicity given by the Spanish Authorities a few days ago when the Guardia Civil (GC) impounded a local car for a tobacco related offence. But this was no regular incident involving the intentional smuggling of cigarettes. The GC have kept quiet and have not embarked on their usual ritual of issuing a press statement or calling the press when they seize cigarettes.
A few days ago a locally registered car was impounded for crossing the frontier with One Packet of Cigarettes yes you read correctly, one packet of cigarettes!
Sounds ridiculous, but it’s absolutely true, no wonder they kept quiet and did not engage ‘press overdrive’ because of the pettiness and embarrassment of making such an incident public. The official GC operational report confirms this.

Is there a British grant to Gibraltar?
- No, the last British subsidy to Gibraltar occurred in 1986. That was direct development aid that the UK then gave to all territories. Since then we have not received any more. The whole economy of Gibraltar generates revenue from tourism, the service industry and cruises. The UK does not give us anything.

It will be the next equivalent of the pay day loan scandal as those who can least afford to gamble will be those most attracted by the ease they can gamble on line.

What ever you may think about the legality I do believe that restrictions will be applied to online gambling and tax revenue increased by those countries who permit it.

But curiously, I haven't seen you ranting about the immorality of gambling on any other thread, yet you accuse Gibraltar of engaging in this and other "immoral" acts on a daily basis - Ironically, all things that others are far more involved in - or "guilty of" - if that's your moral opinion.
So, what is so unique about Gibraltar?

You still do not get it do you. This is a thread about Gibraltar therefore any act or policy that takes place in Gibraltar is relevant.
Putting to one side the threats of uncontrolled internet gambling anywhere in the world , Gibraltar is home to UK companies who are active in this field who use Gibraltars status to avoid tax.
If there were not significant inducements then no one in their right mind would want to live and work there given the choice considering the limitations we hear of almost on a daily basis.
Full marks to the UK government for its policy of trying to tax the activities of these companies in the UK.
Knowing the Portuguese I expect to see them follow suit and tax bets placed from Portugal.

I'm asking what Gibraltar demonstrably has to do with it and why it's unique. In all this time, you haven't yet provided anything tangible, except your opinions.
Look, you could claim the very same things about Malta, Monaco, or even Madrid, and it could all very well be equally as circumstantially true - especially when offered as an opinion.
So, what is unique about Gibraltar, and why is your venom for all things you despise, focused solely on that place alone? What?
