It is not the first time that some Spanish journalist, whose common sense has not been blinded by the PP‘s call for “Gibraltar espanol,†has pointed out that Spain’s foreign policy is poorly lacking, in failing to recognise that the key here is not only the very strong diplomatic relationship between the USA and Britain as opposed to their own feeble one, but the strategic importance that the USA places on Gibraltar’s Naval Base, and the security and confidence it inspires them with, as opposed to the uncertainty that Madrid’s position generates
There are out there, University professors, journalists worth their salt and respected Spanish authors who, despite their love for their country, are not taken in by their Governments fanatical reactions against us, which at the end of the day only helps to besmirch their reputation in the eyes of other proper democracies
GIBRALTAR: Spain’s eternal mantra

Mrs May pledged her new administration’s full support to Gibraltar in a private letter to the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, parts of which were released yesterday.
“It will take some time for our future relationship with the EU to become clear but I can assure you that there will be no immediate changes in Gibraltar’s circumstances, neither in the way people travel nor how services are sold.â€

The legal decision that cleared the way for the Gibraltar FA to join FIFA includes an unequivocal statement that Gibraltar cannot be denied its rights at the whim of Spain,
In its ruling, the panel found that “…under public international law the sovereignty of Gibraltar is clearly British and no actual legal dispute is presently pending.â€
Not only that, the panel concluded “…there is no legitimate dispute, as Spain ceded Gibraltar to the United Kingdom in 1713 pursuant to Article X of the Treaty of Utrecht…â€
The CAS decision will be relevant in future every time Spain seeks to use its sovereignty claim to deprive Gibraltar from something it is entitled to as a matter of law.
“One obvious example is EU aviation measures,â€
“I know that we are now in a Brexit scenario, but the approach CAS has taken here is the approach the EU Commission should have taken many years ago instead of agreeing to suspend the application of EU aviation measures to Gibraltar.â€

So despite seeming a small parcel of land, Gibraltar through its fascinating history and great strategic importance stands strong, tall and proud of its position as a much-valued British territory, which shows no sign of changing any time soon.

Hi Fred
I'm hoping to visit Gib for a couple of nights towards the end of the month and I was hoping if you could give me a little advice?
We hope to stay at the Sunborn - just to enjoy a little luxury in my passing years
. However, their web site says that they have no parking, which is a bit surprising. I googled about a bit and the common reply is that parking is murder in Gib and just drive around until you find a space and grab it. Not really ideal. Previous short visits I have parked in Spain and walked across to the bus stop but I wouldn't want to leave my car for a couple of nights on the roadside in Spain
I wonder if you knew of any secure parking anywhere close to the Marina Don't mind paying a little

Commons debate highlights Rock’s military role
Britain will consider using Gibraltar as a home port for one of its new offshore patrol vessels, the House of Commons has been told.
Mr Stewart had highlighted Gibraltar’s “superb†military facilities and strategic location and asked if one of the UK’s new vessels might be based here.
“Gibraltar is a key base for the Royal Navy.â€

AN ‘historic’ Spanish Supreme Court ruling has confirmed that Gibraltar’s Chief Minister Fabian Picardo is not a drug smuggler or money launderer
Spanish Supreme Court supports Fabian Picardo claim against Manos Limpias leader’s drug slur | Olive Press News Spain
In a case that will ‘set a precedent’ for future cross-border cases, the Madrid court backed a Gibraltar Court ruling that Manos Limpias union leader Miguel Bernad must pay Picardo £30,000 in compensation following the defamatory comments made in front of the European Commision.
A total of £1,500 will now be seized from Bernad’s pension for describing Picardo as ‘an accomplice, collaborator and co-operator in smuggling, drug trafficking and money laundering’, in 2013.
Leading Gibraltarian lawyer Charles Gomez believes that this ‘high-profile’ ruling will send a message out to Spaniards who think they are beyond the reach of Gibraltar’s courts.

Sep 20 - Additional Spot In UEFA Europa League For Gibraltarian Team
The Gibraltar FA is pleased to announce that UEFA have this morning confirmed the grant of an additional spot in next year’s UEFA Europa League to Gibraltarian clubs.
This means that as from next season, three Gibraltarian clubs will participate in UEFA club competitions, as follows:
First Division Champions - UEFA Champions League
Rock Cup Champions - UEFA Europa League
First Division Runners-Up - UEFA Europa League
Therefore, in addition to this season’s winner of the Rock Cup, the First Division runner-up will also participate in the UEFA Europa League next year. Should the winner of the Rock Cup already have qualified for Europe by virtue of being 1st or 2nd in the league, then the additional UEFA Europa League spot will pass to the 3rd placed team in the league.
