Picardo points to C24’s mission failure in UN address
The United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation [the C24] is considering a timetable for formal visits to the remaining 17 territories on the UN’s list of colonies – but will likely seek to leave Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands off the itinerary.
The proposal for a timetable was discussed at a meeting in New York yesterday and drew into sharp relief the UN’s longstanding refusal to send fact-finding missions to both British territories.
Although the plan has yet to be agreed and finalized, committee chairman Rafael Darío Ramírez Carreño, from Venezuela, said the Rock and the Falklands would not be on the list

‘We will not be silenced’, Buttigieg tells UN
“None of you should be fooled. Spain says one thing here, but then acts very differently towards us in Gibraltar,” he said.
“Of course, this Committee has not been able to see that for itself because it continuously fails in its duty to send a visiting mission to our country.”
“Spain simply wishes to obtain sovereignty over our land totally against the democratically expressed wishes of the people of Gibraltar and in doing so run roughshod over the right of self determination enshrined in the UN charter,”
Spain flags territorial integrity and regional cooperation, and nods to joint sovereignty
Spain reiterated its traditional position on territorial integrity and decolonisation during an intervention at the UN yesterday, even as it signalled its willingness to put a new regional framework for cross-border cooperation into practice “immediately”.

Royal Navy boat in CLASH with Spanish warship off Gibraltar weeks before king's visit
The “dangerous” clash brought condemnation of their Iberian neighbour from the Gibraltar Government last night.
The incident comes just two weeks before the Queen hosts Spanish King Felipe and his wife Letizia for an official state visit.
Last night Andrew Rosindell MP called for the visit to be scrapped. “The people of Gibraltar are rightly nervous. They break the rules while we, in turn, welcome the King and Queen of Spain for a state visit. What kind of message is that for the people of Gibraltar?

The skull of a Neanderthal woman, discovered in a quarry in 1848, was only the second Neanderthal skull ever found and the first adult Neanderthal skull to be discovered, eight years before the discovery of the skull for which the species was named in Neandertal, Germany; had it been recognised as a separate species, it might have been called Calpican (or Gibraltarian) rather than Neanderthal Man.
Neanderthal Child's Tooth Discovered At Vanguard Cave
Gibraltar’s third Neanderthal may have been found in Vanguard Cave after a child’s upper right canine milk tooth was discovered last month
At a press conference held at the Gibraltar Museum this morning, Mr Finlayson said the museum yesterday received confirmation from three different experts that it’s a child’s tooth and it could have belonged to a Neanderthal child who lived in Gibraltar approximately 50,000 years ago.

I wonder if the new HMS Queen Elizabeth will be seen soon in Gib.during her long sea trials. There is a deep harbour, more so than Portsmouth where I think dredging is still going on & that will be her home port.Wow,that will be a sight for the Spanish, although I hope it will be viewed with admiration rather than as a threat.
