The Caretaker Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Maria Margallo has this morning told Radio Nacional de España that in the event of a vote for the UK to leave the EU he would then raise the question of Gibraltar on the very next day.

also perfectly consistent with the analysis contained the UK Report which last week highlighted the possibility that Spain could take advantage of Brexit in order to close the frontier.

Just as I said in post675 he is as mad as a box of frogs and somewhere to the right of Mussolini but he failed in the end and got his just deserts.

Spain’s socialist party would continue to advocate “dialogue and friendship” with Gibraltar even if the UK voted to leave the European Union, the PSOE’s MP for Cádiz said yesterday during a visit to the Rock.

Salvador de la Encina was speaking just days after the caretaker Minister for Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, suggested the Partido Popular would seek to capitalise on a Brexit raising Gibraltar “the very next day”.

Sr de la Encina, who sits on the Foreign Affairs Commission in the Spanish parliament, declined to be drawn specifically on the Sr García-Margallo’s comments

A UK exit from the European Union “doesn’t bear thinking about” and would hit La Linea hard, the mayor of the Spanish city said during an official visit to Gibraltar yesterday.

Juan Franco said he was closely following developments in the run-up to the UK’s referendum on EU membership, particularly after the UK warned last week that there was no guarantee the border would remain open in the event of a Brexit.

“When Gibraltar sneezes, La Linea catches a cold,” Sr Franco said

Gibraltar could remain in the European Union in the event of Brexit by agreeing to “transitional” joint sovereignty between Spain and the UK, Spain’s acting Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo said in an interview on Sunday.

His comments will be condemned in Gibraltar and seen as further evidence that Spain’s Partido Popular would seek to capitalise on a UK withdrawal from the EU by trying to advance its sovereignty claim over the Rock.

Portuguese motorists cross the border into Spain to spend nearly a million euros daily in filling up their vehicles with petrol. The Spanish Government is not complaining.

It is well known that the Spanish authorities do not like to see Spanish vehicles crossing into Gibraltar to fill their tanks with petrol which is cheaper in Gibraltar than in Spain. However, when the petrol is cheaper in Spain than in Portugal, they welcome the Portuguese to drive into Spain to buy Spanish petrol there!

It is reported that of the 9,000 Portuguese TIR lorries that circulate in Europe, 8,300 regularly fill up their tanks in Spain, it is reported.

Spain could "tear up" obligations to Gibraltar after Brexit, says diplomat quoted in the Times

The Times report suggests the senior Spanish official has close knowledge of the Brexit negotiations, and believes Madrid would no longer have to respect any European obligations to Gibraltar. He is quoted as saying that, if Britain left the EU, Spain could then squeeze Gibraltar by tightening its grip on commercial activity, having long queues, and even closing the border.

Obviously another Spaniard without any knowledge of Gibraltar.
The above is what Spain has been doing for many years.

San Roque Football Club facing fine

San Roque Football Club could face a fine of up to 21 thousand Euros for playing a friendly at its stadium against GIbraltar this past Saturday. The match marked the Andalusian club's 50th anniversary with a young GIbraltar team beaten 3:1.

Under recent regulations laid down by Spain's Sports Ministry, its football federation could fine San Roque anything from seven to 21 thousand Euros for allowing a Gibraltar team to play in Spain.

The Guardia Civil union has bemoaned the lack of sufficient personnel to tackle drug smuggling in La Linea, according to reports in the regional press.

AUGC claims there have been times when there was no patrol available to cover the coastline, meaning smugglers were able to unload their cargo with “impunity”. It adds on occasion two-person patrols have found themselves outnumbered, surrounded and sometimes pelted with stones by smugglers protecting their merchandise.
