Word on the street has it that Gib shops are experiencing an upsurge in pre christmas sales due mainly to locals shopping locally instead of in Spain.

The Spanish like visiting Gibraltar. They like the shops and it's a great change of scenery on their doorstep.

I've even seen Spanish school children and Mundo Senior day trips this year. I never thought I would see that.

How is that the Spanish view?

I don't think anyone is going to force Gibraltar to join anyone. For economic reasons alone it will not want to be part of either Spain or the UK, and becoming a fully-independent country doesn't seem viable either. So the status quo ("overseas territory") will continue...

Isn't it amazing how quickly things move now Cameron is back?

He could give a press conference after announcing the agreement outside Number 6 Covenant Place then go back inside humming like this:

I'm going to hazard a guess that Fred considers any news about any country in South America as the Spanish view, except for Brazil (maybe)...

That officials of the European Union have started to brief against Spain is an indication of just how fed up everybody else is with the Gibraltar treaty negotiations. Indeed, the suggestion is that far from showing flexibility or generosity,

Madrid is displaying a degree of stubbornness and a lack of realism which is making the conclusion of an already complex treaty even harder.
TREATY
The irony is that Spain herself is to blame for the existing state of affairs. It was Madrid which insisted first that Gibraltar not form part of the UK treaty and second that no future relationship deal could be reached without Spain’s consent.

Excepting residents of Gibraltar, I wonder just how many Brits or Spaniards could care less?

It is said that only Madrid’s neighbours know the real Spain and are not fooled by the political spin and the smokescreens. In this context, both Morocco and Gibraltar have been shaped over decades into experts on the character, ambitions and predatory designs of the Spanish state.

It's as absurd to claim that all Spanish-speaking countries have the same mentality as it would be to claim all English-speaking countries have the same mentality. You won't even find the same mentality within Spain let alone between Spanish-speaking countries. If you knew anything about your sworn enemy you'd know that.

I really doubt that if Spain were removed from the equation, any other EU or Schengen country would allow the airport border control to be done by Gibraltar or UK border guards either.

Brazil says that it is deploying troops along its border with Venezuela after the Venezuelan government announced plans to incorporate an area controlled by Guyana into its territory.

Argentina springs to mind and even more so looking at that lunatic that they have just voted into power.
