Fred, are you saying that ALL UK nationals who are either resident in Gibraltar or who have flown to Gibraltar from the UK and staying in Gib are point blank refused entry into Spain?

What are Spanish border force giving as the reason? No proof of funds, no pre booked accommodation, no legitimate reason to visit Spain?

In order for a non EU passport holder to cross from Gib into Spain they have to provide proof of prebooked accommodation, a prebooked departure date and sufficient funds to support themselves for that period of time.
Some have been booking a night in a cheap La Linea hotel but not using the booking. Now the authorities are clamping down on this.
So nipping over to meet friends for a drink, meal or just shopping is no longer possible.
However someone flying to Gib for a holiday in Spain that meets these criteria is still possible.
Gib residents with red ID cards are exempt from these regulations other Gib residents are not.⁸

I think they are probably Schengen rules for third country nationals being rigourously enforced. When you left the EU, you left a lot of your rights behind and that is one of them.

If Gibraltar can't strike a deal with Spain re Schengen, this will be the new normal.

So can no one in the south England nip over to France for a meal or go hiking/camping any more?
No longer put on a rucksack and spend a week or more just wandering and exploring France camping at leisure where the mood takes them?

They probably need to show a return ticket and proof of adequate funds. Third country nationals do not have automatic right of entry to the EU and are at the mercy of the border guard.

Good point. Not if they are going to France for the day and show a return ticket but the French border force are at liberty to ask for campsite bookings etc.

The thing is, it's random and some guards will let things go (within reason of course) while others will insist on going 100% by the book.

It's a risk when UK nationals cross into Schengen now and there are plenty of horror stories. Believe me, it's not just Gibraltar!

Morrison's clever way of getting food to Gibraltar as EU bureaucrats threaten Christmas

The Rock's main supermarket has been forced to fly its festive supplies to prevent bureaucracy ruining the fun.

God knows why Morrisons did that when they can easily buy and transport all that stuff directly from Ireland. More and more businesses are transferring place of origin to Ireland and the Netherlands in particular.

What a ridiculously divisive headline.

The "stuff" would still have to negotiate A Border Control Point when leaving Spain.
I am sure Morrisons wheighed up all the alternatvies berore making this decision.

They have had many years of ecperience since taking over the Gibraltar store from Safeways.

OK, I see what you mean. As a one off for Christmas it's not a bad idea to fly stuff in but it's not really sustainable long term. Irish road freight easily passes through Spain so if Morrisons can strike a deal, it would be a good idea to source items like fish, dairy and meat products that I have noticed are regularly "missing" from the shelves in Morrisons from Ireland because they are (obviously) in the single market. Tesco in Mijas have loads of deliveries direct from Ireland so Morrisons could probably tag on to that - they even have Irish parsnips!

I like Morrisons too, definitely better than the old Safeway.

Like with the temporary driving licence agreement that dragged on forever until Spain said it was time to piss or get off the pot, this seems similar...
