However, in hard line Muslim countries it would appear to be the norm, no one tells them they are wrong, no one stops trading with them, no one stops making Charity donations to them.

For a religion that is almost 1400 years old perhaps it is about time they started taking their heads out of the sand and started listening to the rest of the world which has left them behind.

Funny (peculiar) they are the ones telling us that we don't understand them and should live by their religious laws. Such would be a retrograde step.

It is about time the "silent majority" in the Muslim religion stopped wringing their hands and muttering "we are a peace loving religion" and did something about it.
Agree with your last statement.

However, unfortunately, many UK Muslims are originally from a "hardline" Muslim country --Pakistan. Although again many from there do not follow the strict rules or any rules!

But there are many other groups in the UK for example the Bohra from Gujarat or the Ismaillis who in general, are not at all strict. But they tend to be all 'lumped together'.

sorry, can accept no excuses - if they want to have their own communities then they must resolve it or someone else will, and they won't like it and the wailing and crying will be heard across the channel.
this isn't a racist statement or threat, it is all about the incomers integrating with the indigenous peoples. They say they want to come to Our Country and contribute to it - so let us see them do it.

What excuses?? I was just stating some facts and agreeing with you. Pointing out that to some groups of Muslims other groups are just as alien as all are to you. Are all Christian groups the same? or all Christians the same??

I wasn't referring to you but to those "minorities" who always seem to have an excuse as stated.

And thank you for agreeing with me

Obviously quite a few contribute!!!

I suppose it depends what you mean by "integrating"-- Expats also tend to form groups and communities. Protection against some disapproving local people, who might think of them a identical 'clones', instead of a mixture of different human beings!!! So they cling together.
Once they gain confidence most spread out, although some never do.

.....and so says the Muslim Council of Gt Britain, surprise, surprise.

Just a tad curious as to who are these "disapproving local people" that you claim Expats need protection against, as I can't say I've ever come across them before ?

Muslim Council, so you automatically disbelieve it ? Open minded? I think that may help my subsequent point!!

Was trying to answer the OP's post and to point out that integration takes time, especially if those around are not particularly welcoming.

Are you saying that expats of any nationality don't ever stick together or form groups? That British people are the only ones suspicious of newcomers?

Of course I am generalising but there can be mistrust on both sides which can hinder integration.

Seriously before it kicked off, not many would know who Maria miller was or dare for what she did. Muslim MP replaces femake MP in job that no one gave a toss about.

Please don't try to misquote me, it simply doesn't work.

All I'm pointing out is that your link is hardly convincing for very obvious reasons.
A totally independent link with no vested interests at all would be much more impressive.

Speaking purely from my own fairly extensive experiences in several Eu countries, I would say that British people are far less suspicious of newcomers than the vast majority of other nationalities with whom I have lived or spent considerable time in the company of and hopefully in the process have come to have a reasonable understanding of their P.O.V.s

By the way, I am still curious as to precisely who are these locals that the British supposedly feel the need to be protected from ?

Maybe it is just expat forums that give this impression of newcomers being less than welcome ????

"Protected" probably the wrong word, as you agreed some others are suspicious, so expats/ foreigners stay in their own groups, and mix socially together in other words many do not fully integrate.

I would have thought a minister in the cabinet was quite an important job??

Not in DD,s world, 1) The post has gone to a muslim and 2 ) the post has gone to a woman.
Two reasons to think it was a bad decision.

Would not have happened in the 1950.s

Playing 'trumps' again with religion as the cards?

My Muslim woman minister, trumps your 'honour killing'.

To be correct -- my post was answering Andyrich 666.

The post has gone to a MAN--Sajid Javid, the first Muslim man in the cabinet.

(the first Muslim woman cabinet minister, Baroness Warsi, was some time ago).

Not sure this is a sensible answer. The whole thread as with other threads has been about the Muslims. and questions about if they have any good points

"Trumps" ?? are you saying one cannot mention a man/woman of any nationality/religion doing well, because it would appear as "trumping" the bad ones.

The minister being discussed as replacing Maria Miller as cabinet minister is a MAN. Sajid Javid.
