Here are a few of the photos taken last week during our latest trip to CE.

The gardens in the Rago 2 Apartments have come on leaps and bounds, we were very impressed with their condition.

Workmen have started to block pave in the base of the trees along the main road. Is this because they have now taken root and are stable, or were too many of us falling into the holes as we wound our way back from the clubhouse ?


The external facings on the corner building on the Commercial Centre is starting to take shape.

Here are some more photos of work on the Commercial Centre.

The workmen appear to be laying a tar or bitumen base in the first photo. The second shows another area already treated. The third shows what looks like a cement covering laid over the black base, possibly as preparation for tiles or similar flooring to be laid.

Perhaps someone with building knowledge can explain the process ?

Hi Michael, Gerry, John, you are correct the developer is based in the UK and has bought about 9 or 10 plots for development. I have worked with him and still do on some IT projects, saw CE and loved it, so bought one.

he is using a Portuguese builder,and I have seen the work in Portugal he has done recently, very high standard there are some plots still available but not self build

I spoke with the developer yesterday and he confirms the power is on in the road (street lights are on) but not to the Villa, they intent to press Fadessa

full marks on this selection of pictures. Karma on its way to you. Still don't understand what you do with it!! No shortage of activity then at the commercial centre? It won't become a white elephant providing that the timing of the initial launch and widespread marketing is done well. This is the key to its success. I think your theory of layering the ground prior to tiling is valid. I'm sure we will get to see more pictures of the centre from others over future weeks as things speed up.

Hi BobD,

You are almost spot on with your suggestion but you may have missed a layer. The reason for what they are doing is that there is a car park under the slab and they want to make sure that water does not percolate through.

The bituminous layer is laid to seal up any imperceptible cracks that may be in the slab. They should then lay down a bituminsed fabric layer on top before they lay the "screed" of sand and cement to give the correct falls for the final surface which in pedestrian areas will probably be tiles. Where the surface is used for vehicular access the screed will become the final layer and will incorporate an aggregate as well as the sand and cement in UK this is often called a "granolithic" layer since it incorporates small granite chippings.

It is good to see the final decorative panels going on the centre but they are exactly the colour shown on the artists impressions in the shed and I had hoped it would be a slightly more muted shade of Mustard?

Yes,I was over last week and the facade does look rather garish.

Perhaps they will cover it with advertising hordings for the rertail units inside

The artists impression compares very will with Bob's picture. I rather like the 'copper' effect of cladding.

Just back from CE after spending the first wonderful week in our town house on M6. We are totally delighted with our house and loved staying at CE. I don't know what it is about the place, but we felt so at home there. The weather was fantastic and the kids even managed to swim in the pool most days... too cold for me!! There is still so much to be done on site, but slowly... very slowly, you can see things taking shape, and I remain very positive about the future of CE and can't wait to return. If anyone out there is still feeling down about the place, and there are some that seem to take satisfaction from knocking it, all I can say is, stick with it, stay patient , the result is better than we could have ever hoped for, we love it.

And as far as I am aware, this also happens in projects in the UK such as the Dockside developments.

Can people please cool it a bit. I can see what might have made our former thread leader depart. Too much banter, particularly if constantly harping on about one theme can be damaging and hurtful eventually.
