We always use a guy called Luis Romeria who was recommended by our friend who lives in Ayamonte. He doesn't have a web site and in fact I've never seen him in the 2 years I have been using them, but the service and charges are very good and competitive.
We simply drop him an e-mail request with the dates etc, and he replies straight away. His charges include insurance and cross border stuff, so no scary add-ons. One of his guys will meet you just outside arrivals, fill in the paperwork for you and even bring the car to the door as well. You don't need to pay anything until you get there and you simply drop the car off at the on-site carpark without having to wait for it to be checked over.
He is not necessarily the cheapest, but worth checking him out even for a comparison. His e-mail is [email protected] and I have no commercial connection with him...however, it may be worth mentioning "John & Lynn" so that he gives you the best prices.

I followed BE advice and bought an annual DEW insurance policy - which does cover everything - tyres and underbody - and works out much cheaper if you rent more than about 10 days in a year. I used www.cartrawler.com (again a BE recommendation) to find a renter for my next trip and they came up with Argus - who also don't make a charge for cross border.
Hope this helps

I tried all those you mentioned, but Luis still came out about the same. Even if he was a euro or 2 more, I found his service is much better. He always told me I was getting preferential rates (as a friend of a friend), so now I'll have to believe him. Anyways good luck with yours...

I used to use Holiday Autos because the seemed to get a reasonable deal with most of the big names and included DEW insurance in the charge (optionally) at a much better rate than you get locally. (Beware of the local DEW insurance as it doesn't usually cover tyres and underbody damage and most people don't realise until it's too late) None of the companies provided by Holiday Autos have made a charge for cross border - including Europcars, Avis, Hertz, SIXT etc. I used to go with the bigger companies because they do have international breakdown cover and some of the smaller Portugal only didn't.

Not exactly correct - it's not Argus that imposes border exit charges, but the car hire company. Two weeks ago I hired with Air Auto via Argus and was hit with a €50 border exit fee + €15 for one extra driver. Lessons learned (1) pay a few pounds more and stick with economy car hire (additional driver free and (2) always carefully check the car rental company's fees before you make the booking. Also annual excess policy is a must as the protection is cheaper for ~10+ days per year and the cover is better than what the car hire companies offer at a daily rate, eg they don't cover tyres, underside and locks.

You're right. I phoned the Faro desk of AirAuto and they confirmed that they would charge me 50Euros for cross border to Spain. So I called Car Trawler to cancel.

You also have to be careful when you drive a UK car here on holiday, a lot of people do not realize that the cover drops to the minimum of 3rd party and no recovery, not even sure if it is covered for theft, despite being fully comp in UK, could be ouch if you have a prang.

Has anyone ever had their oven cleaned? Is there a company offering this service?

Hi,
This Is My First Post!
We have just got back today from a 7 day stay at CE.
While we were were there, we picked up "The Resident" newspaper from the clubhouse, where we found an advert for a shop called "Bike Spor".
The next day we checked it out, it is quite hard to find, there are directions here, though it is all in spanish!!
I think it is 7.50 euros for one day, 12.50 for three days and 25 euros for 1 week, and the bikes are really good.
We went over to Villa real de Santo Antonio (Portugal)(on the ferry!)
I would reccomend bike spor to anyone who fancies a bike ride, weather its round ayamonte or in Portugal!
Regards
Josh

I apologise for so many qustions (and my spelling) but i am getting very worried, ESURI is fast becoming my holiday home from hell, and could anybody recomend a good managment company my current one does not seem to be all that intrested in my concerns or achiving me any rental income THANKS GUYS

Send them all a price list, cos you will get more friends calling than you ever thought you had, most expecting a freebie. ;-))
