Try Pria Verde in Portugal about 10 km away you might like to have a place their among the pine forests or Tavira again in Portugal 20km away you could have an aprtment on the river at the end of the Roman bridge if history is your bag,

Easiest way if you don't know the area too well - Over the Bridge in Portugal and take the second exit off for Monte Gordo. Follow the road until you come to a T junction (opposite Infante Restaurant). Turn left towards Monte Gordo - about one KM on your right is a road off to Praia Verde (up a steep hill). Follow the road as far as you can and park anywhere in the car park (free)
