I'm hoping this next cold blast is not as bad as predicted (and some forecasts state it's going to be really bad). Already there are major problems in getting things delivered in Scotland

The country's main supermarkets and online shops have stopped taking orders in Scotland in the run up to Christmas, because of the weather.

Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda have halted orders or suspended deliveries, after last week's wintry weather brought the transport network to a standstill.

Many are struggling to cope with a backlog of deliveries, as a result.

Spare a thought for those Brits who have had to move back to the UK and are hating this cold winter!

I got a Christmas card yesterday from a couple who used to be neighbours of ours and had to return to the UK 2 years ago as work dried up (and they were both fluent in Spanish, had lived first in the Canaries and then mainland Spain for 12 years altogether). Their bins haven't been emptied for weeks, they're not getting any mail and the local roads and pavements are really treacherous - and that's without the new snow and ice predicted this coming weekend. Their daughter, who was born in Spain and lived here all her life until they had to move, is crying that she wants to come back.

They were lucky and were able to buy a house to live in in the UK whilst hanging on to their Spanish property as they hope to be able to return eventually, but evidently living in a centrally heated house is not much consolation to them!

Funny you should say that...it depends where you lived in Spain and where you are now living in England, everywhere is not the same. For me I far prefer the winter in England and like Spain in the summer. You can still have cosy houses and pubs with open fires or wood burning stoves in beautiful countryside in the UK, you can't beat a good Christmas lunch with all the trimmings...different people like different things for different reasons...life is what you make it.....by the way inflation is going up pretty fast and property is dropping just as quickly...swings and roundabouts.

Variety is the spice, and as you say it all depends on your exact loction in each country.
I am back in the UK and loving it, but likewise I hope to be back in Spain in a month or so and enjoy it equally.
Meantime if the Daily Wail ever gets a bit short staffed, I'm sure Lynn could fill in quite nicely.

Agree, especially as I haven't suffered any of the things that her friends have!
Some people here are telling us how warm it still is in Spain, others will be freezing, and I have just watched Spanish TV about some poor souls in Écija that have been completed flooded out for the second time in a few months and a young girl washed away and killed. So despite Lynns inference that everything is dandy in Spain and hell in UK, as you say, it can vary so much depending on where you live. I see 36 provinces in Spain are on alert for cold, rain and snow, but I don´t expect her to tell us about that.

I don't remember you telling us about people dying in their own garden in England either? A bit rich to criticise Lyn R for giving her experiences, when you've been telling us all about your perfect mini-climate.

Two pensioners found dead in their gardens.

Unfotunately the cold blast is forecast to come back overnight to many parts of the UK. And apparently it's going to hang around for some time.

Pensioners die in all countries. Some die from cold, malnutrition and in high summer in the south of Spain they die from heat waves.

If I were you Stevie I would give Spain a try, know your partner has health issues but most posters say the health service here is wonderful

Gets pretty bad in Scotland.....

Here it's dropping to a chilly 12 at night. You can take the UK climate and stick it where the monkey put his nuts.

Excluding the coastal belts from Gib to the Costa Blanca, it is doubtful if the remaining 90% of Spain has any great advantage over the UK in the Wintertime.
As for the Summer there's a lot to be said for being comfortable and active as against sweltering and sheltering from unbearable heat.
For me,the best thing about Spanish weather is the earlier Springtime and comfortable Autumn.

Nice debating technique Jacky!
If work runs out here I may well look abroad again. but for now London is good for me, and it's quite a good place to live. Shame you can't live here since you dislike Spain so much.

I'd say the Costa de la Luz definitely has it over the UK. So far this winter we have had one night when the temp almost hit zero.

All the rest here the cold nights have so far been mostly about 10 C with a few between 5 & 10. There's been a lot in the last month that have been 15+.

Usually we are unlucky if we get 5 frosty nights. Last year we had just one.
