Over a billion Muslims and some ignorant poster on a forum who's never met one, knows nothing about them save for what shes told in the Daily Mail preaches to someone born in the Middle East with Muslim friends about how evil they ALL are... Priceless.

The biggest problem with this thread is people talking about different things. Some are talking about supression within the mulsim ranks whilst others, believing they´re in a conversation, are talking about equality within different muslim ranks.

From what I see, MeMe is talking about group A, and Bipat and your goodself are talking about group B!!! ... no wonder it is what it is

I think you have a point. I'm no lover of Islam or any other religion and I freely admit that radical and extreme Islam is a real problem in more ways than one. If me me were to address her comments to Radical Islam and Muslim extremists instead of just to Islam and Muslims I suspect there would be considerably more agreement.

If Islam was actually "so harsh to half of those born into it" (I assume we're talking FGM, extreme enforced dress code, forced under-age marriage and all the other things that you have mentioned) do you think that all those hundreds of millions of women would actually put up with it? You think that little of them?

No, twas I! Someone said Warsi was unforgettable, I disagreed, I said I thought she was a political lightweight whose meteoric rise to the top was due in a large part to the fact she was Asian and a Muslim. Even after she was kicked out, they invented a new position for her. Someone more eloquent than me said this of her,

You have never won an election in your life; indeed, the Party’s share of the vote has fallen wherever you’ve stood. You are a Cameroon creation, elevated solely because you are female, Muslim and Asian. The ‘greasy pole’ was obligingly degreased especially for you: high-profile roles were created and ladders were made abundant while the snakes of political reality were de-fanged and un-venomed. All because you embody the Cameroon ‘modernisation’ strategy and ‘decontamination’ agenda. You are indeed a symbol – a ‘tokenistic appointment’ – as some of your co-religionists observe.

As your reply was to MeMe, you do realise she fully supports Muslim woman in their plight for equal rights?
What´s with your "victim" stance?
Amazing how ones own thoughts are projected onto others!

My remark about "A Muslim woman being put down on this Forum", was meant as a joke!!!

Further posts have made me think it not actually so far from the truth. So best not to mention any other Muslim women in public life:ohmy:

What do you mean by "victim stance"? I am not a victim of anything except an 'addiction' to joining in lengthy discussions about Muslims, etc.:(

Making cutting remarks in a "debate" of high feelings will seldom be seen as funny by the person the joke is directed at. But no doubt you would be fully aware of that hence your little jab poorly disguised as such.

Who is the "Someone more eloquent"?
Whatever reason Sayeeda Warsi was originally chosen I admire her intelligence and sense. So there we can agree to disagree.

She was "kicked out" because of a 'little expenses problem' (that makes her a real politician!!!!!!)

PS Any Muslim women that you do admire??

"Debate" of high feelings?
I suppose the debate would only have really high feelings if a British expat of the Muslim religion joined in.
Would they dare??

My actual words were...

and don't forget our own Baroness Warsi
I have mixed views about her none of which have anything to do with her being a Muslim, a woman or Conservative.

I dislike this sort of thing

In November 2013, Lady Warsi, told an audience at the University of Cambridge, that Faith was being put back at the “heart of government,” as it was under Sir Winston Churchill and Baroness Thatcher. The Coalition she argued, is one of the “most pro-faith governments in the West,”. “More often than not, people who do God do good.
