They then climbed up on the parapet and fixed it to the lower part of the TV arial mast. From what I can see it could be attached to the top rail of a balcony as long as they can get line of sight.

They made no adjustments just said there is a mast to the south just round the shoulder of the ridge which covers Ayamonte but I thought we would not get that. So they just looked west to the commercial block of which you can see the peak of the roof and pointed it at that all the while muttering about the problems the had just had at "Manolo's".

ME may be far enough west to get the Ayamonte mast along with some of VE. For a neat job and if like us you have choice put it next to a conduit that goes into the house then they can pull the cable through without the need to drill holes in the wall.

If Iberbanda go and leave the bracket we will just move the transponder onto that and plug in the cable that K and me pulled through to our bedroom using my electricians "fish" and draw strings. We then pulled through under the floor so that all the cables are tidy behind the TV.

The signal strength and the TD-LINK router must be very good coz last night after the football we sat outside Marco's and I opened the iPad and immediately picked up about 6 priinet routers but all were locked. Same happens at Limonaro so it is spreading like wildfire. Good to see what a bit of healthy competition does.
Thanks John. My ideal is to have the aerial on a bracket somewhere on the 2 front terraces so there is minimal cabling hassle and the router is in the living/main bedroom, so that the main bed / living are well served with a signal. It sounds like the wifi is a 'strong' one - have you got a good 'range' inside and around the villa? On your tablet, when roaming around? Based on that do you think the bedrooms and terraces of our place would have a reasonable signal?

I suppose with neat cabling and the router in the main bedroom, I could also use the back terrace as that points in a good direction if I had to.

Thanks for the feedback

Jon

I suppose there is always the chance that Priinet might evaporate like Jags but it's not a huge outlay to lose if you aren't on a long contract.

Any other solution involves a fixed landline and a minimum contract with a telecomm supplier plus a ISP/broadband charge on top, or G3/4 dongles.
Even a G3 dongle is quite expensive if you can get a decent download before hitting a "fair usage" limit.
G4 (from TMN) requires an 18month contract and a Portuguese bank account.

Or did you have another option in mind which hasn't been explored yet?
I guess it's all about the flexibility the company can offer . If say they install and you come over for 2 weeks and eg have a 10 mb contract and only pay half the monthly fee . Then pay I think 7 euros was mentioned every month to keep the signal registered. The first year with installation cost for someone who has 4 weeks a year over here would be approx 200 euros.this is the best case scenario.the question was about TV more than anything else that's why I asked if they had access to a sat dish.

Thanks ALL, we are out in 3 weeks and hopefully there might have more experience of prinet by then. The existing sky dish is above my top bedroom for the block. The only other TV option for me would be the BBC satback system which is far from guaranteed, and still no wifi actually on duplex. I was a bit disappointed that the presidents decided against limited wifi at the annual mtg in April. PS/. Can anyone describe what the "AERIAL" looks like. Is it a square mesh on a pole about 20 inches sq? Back on the costa blanca we had a semi legal rebroadcast system for UK TV using this kind of set-up using microwave frequencies. It sounded similar???

If you need to increase the WiFi range throughout the property and outside then the Home Plug solution is the easy option using the power cables within the property.

The router is connected to a nearby plug that plugs into the mains supply. The subsequent WiFi plugs can be plugged in anywhere and moved around at will with no further setup to provide a strong signal anywhere in the property, however large.

I use 4 in total and can use WiFi anywhere in and around the property.

I use 2, one in a room at the end of the garden. I am surprised how well they work. That and the fact how simple they were to install, basically plug and play.
Even I managed to install without problems!

Alternatively, I use the Vonets system and they have proved very reliable and slightly cheaper (1 vonet and 1 usb power plug rather than 2 TP link plugs).
Albeit, you have to use a laptop at set up to initially link it to your router password.

So is this system a goer for us part timers? Not entirely clear from the previous.

In Encinas B15 we have LOS to the bridge and to the portugues vodafon mast

Install cost is?
Monthly charges are?

Who do we contact?

Good morning

I have seen that there is many questions about the plan a here are the conditions. Sorry it take us so long but we have been studying so many options. Also I don´t want to disturb this forum with my post because I read the rules and is not the place to advertise and also I don´t want anyone to get mad at me because of this.

UK RESIDENT AGREEMENT FOR 7€ SPECIAL PLAN

The subscriber agrees to contract the service for the first 3 months with the normal plan and once this 3 months are finish they can have a plan of 7€/month with 1Mb download service when they are not here. This plan is maintenance fee So the subscriber doesn’t have to cancel the service.
To change to this fee (once the 3 month has passed) the subscriber will have to contact priinet in this email: [email protected] 15 days before the end of the month. The subscriber understands that the month start the 5th day and finishes the 4th of the next one. To re-established the normal plan the subscriber will have to contact 15 days before 5th day of the month to the same email direction . Any month that the suscribers have the normal plans they will pay the normal rate of the plans no matter how many days he had has the service.

Examples: I arrive in spain january 20th and I leave january 30th (I want the normal plan for 10 days) You have to tell us with at least december 20th. we will charge you 1 month with the normal price that it will goes from january 5th to february 4th.
Example:I arrive in spain january 20th and I leave february 10th (I want the normal plan for 21 days) You have to tell us with at least december 20th. we will charge you 2 month with the normal price that it will goes from january 5th to february 4th and from february 5th to march 4th.
example: I have normal service and I leave april 14th ( I want internet until that day) you will have to tell us at least april 19th so the service is suspended in may 4th.

Just a follow up to my last post.

When I arranged access to our Apartment Bloque roof terrace, the guys from Priinet came around again when requested, to try to setup the system for me. Unfortunately, the signal was too weak where we are located, so they offered to come back again with a mast to raise the receiver. This they duly did a couple of days later, but even with the receiver raised higher with the mast, a strong enough signal couldn't be received on our Bloque 8 on Vista Esuri, as we are apparently in a 'dip', and can't get direct line of sight to either Ayamonte, or the repeater station at the little shop. However, Priinet expect to have other repeaters in place in the next couple of months, so we will try again next time we are out.

I have to say that I have been very impressed with their Customer Service, they really tried hard to find a solution for us, made several phone calls to and us three visits, at no charge, and didn't try to hide the fact that our location is unsuitable at this time. I will definitely try again with them in September.

We have just had Priinet fitted. It was easily and quickly done. We can get a signal even in Las Colinas and Antonio (who was installing the equipment and is Jorge's cousin) said that there is another repeater on the roof of one of the other blocks. We can get a signal in every room in the apartment. The router is just a small box fitted to the wall by the front door and we didn't need any holes or messy wires.

The only thing you need to remember is that when the equipment is installed they do need access to the roof; if you are in a ground ffloor apartment like me that might be difficult but fortunately one of my neighbours on the second floor was in so they went and knocked on his door and used his stairs to get to his roof terrace. I have no idea what they did once they go it there but it obviously worked.

Antonio explained the system in the same way that Jorge did in a previous post (#71 above). The only thing he wasn't sure about was whether the fixed telephone could be turned on and off like the broadband and said he would ask Jorge: so Jorge if you are reading this, what is the answer.

Up to now I have been using the TMN dongle (actually the mini Wi-Fi router as I don't have a USB port on my tablet) as recommended by Jon-bxl so thanks Jon for that. I never thought I could have broadband connection without having a satellite dish on the side of the apartment but this seems to be one solution. I do like the fact that the broadband is permanently connected and I don't have to keep switching it on and off when I want to use it.

That's really good news that you have it in your ground floor appt. And the installation isnt messy. They are coming to ours Saturday and I hope there is a way to get a signal. Being on the top floor, I hope we aren't in a 'dead' area.

Priinet have landed on a winner here in the Ayamonte region and its great to have some good news in CE too, as many people have taken up the offer. If we get a good signal we will take up the 'expat' offer and sadly say goodbye to TMN that has served us well so far.

Priinet came yesterday. On time, professional and courteous.

Through no fault of their own it took 3+ hours to set up. Mainly due to trying to chase a wire up the internal ducts/tubes. Nightmare. Also they were up ladders poking wires etc in searing heat and never complained. Even apologised for the time it took. We made sure they were well hydrated. I spent a couple of hours in the cooler morning, in the shade working on my motorbike, and was boiling! So they had it much worse

Result a 5mb internet free till July 5, then we signed for the 10MB package, worth the extra 5 Euros for us (over the 20Eur 6MB pack) even if it is 70% down we would have 3mbs - which is enough for us. As non-full-time residents its worth the extra fiver for peace of mind for the few months a year we are in CE.

Good signal and my internet speed test shows about 2-3MB (so falling short) I use TestMy.net Broadband Internet Speed Test. Their speed test showed 4-4.7MB with a fantastic signal strength of 95-100%.

Watched TV all morning and the test will be if it will maintain the bandwidth at all times (eg World cup games, Corrie etc). Router downstairs in the living room and a signal all over our duplex.

Adios to a well respected TMN its given great service.... well maybe hasta luego... There are financial reasons around the billing timing that may mean we use it still, as all non-full time residents will also plan this way to save wonga.... and it means we have a back up too.

Overall we now have a better system for internet than ever.

Jon

PS just did a test, we have one dead spot farthest from the router through brick next to A/C on our 'back terrace'. We lose roughly 0.5 mb speed upstairs in the bedroom &other terrace. So it is good for us today, later with the 10 Mb I am confident it will give more than we need.
