Hi all !!

Firstly , great news about the 0.25% drop in interest rates !! (Well for those with/getting mortgages!!)

In Queensland, since 1/Sept/08 First time buyers have no Stamp duty to pay up...

I dont think 450k houses will benefit , due to the amount of them on the market. (IMHO)

yes, this will distort the market, just like it did in Uk & Ireland.

eg. people will not pay more than 500k (even if 'value' is at 520k) because of stamp duty, OR, it will be 500k on contract,...

As from 1 September 2008, there is no transfer duty payable for a
residential property worth $ 500,000 or less for first home...

To be honest, I am still unsure !

Stamp duty is exempt in QLD from 1st sept 08 for 1st time buyers.
Tranfer duty is the new name for stamp duty??
As usual (i find)...

I beleive it is just QLD.

I asked the bank mananger this morning,& she was sure that the stamp duty was payable on the amount in excess of 500k only?!

Still confused, & cant seem to find a...

Nah, we'll be fine - you should be more positive ! (there is a 4 month holiday visa for Fiji and around the same for NZ - so we can hang on for quite some time!! it will still be cheaper than living...

Not long now ! 4 bags @ 23 kg each (Mrs has 3, I have been left with 1 knackered auld rucksack from backpacking 10yrs ago !!...
