I bought the Tomtom GO910 in UK back in August. I love the fact it speaks the name of every road you turn into, although the pronounciation of some Aussie road is a laugh when spoken by my posh pommie puter generated voice.

I was told you can only get it to speak the street names with the computer generated voices and not the funny ones.

The TomTom Go 520 is the best I reckon. Would love to update my 510. The 520 has voice address (you speak the address to it), mapshare (user updated maps) and a built in FM transmitter so you can put music on the TomTom and play it back via your car's radio.

That is correct. The 'comedy' voices will just say 'turn left' etc ... the computer generated ones will say the street names.

Can anyone tell me how much the tom tom 520s are? I have tried googling but only seem to be able to find accessories.
I am toying with if it would be cheaper to buy one before we go, but then if it goes wrong we are a bit buggered.
Hubbie would like one of those phones with built in sat nav

How do they work? I mean, how do they know the direction you're pointing in? Incar ones obviously work on the principle that the car (mainly) is pointing the way it's travelling so as soon as you start moving it orientates itself - but I can't see how a handheld one does it....

Well we have had a devil of a problem trying to up load the maps:curse: Now it is saying we have them on the memory stick but we cannot confirm they are there. Do we have to wait until we get to oz before they 'appear'?

If you turn it on, touch screen, go to change preferences then forward to manage maps, then switch map & it should show the maps you have.

On my GO 910 I couldn't download it to my apple macbook, so had to download tomtom home 2.1 from tomtom plus services on tomtom.com onto my windows pc, then when I connected my tomtom it opened tomtom home & downloaded my updates inc Australia map which I then had click on to install, now works perfectly, I've planned my route from Sydney airport to my brothers in Manly then on to my rental in Terrigal for this wednesday when we fly yipppeeee

Hope this helps
