Re: Article about unhappy Britain

Honestly, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. Guy Garvey is such a charismatic but totally genuine and funny front man. He makes it seem as though a big venue is his front room...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

Me too! Even in Manhattan, it's just not the same as the UK. We've only seen 2 concerts this year - Billy Bragg and Elbow - and we have Noel Gallagher coming up in November. It seems we only see...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

I think the troll is addicted to this. But the thing is, I can't understand why.

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

And died down since too. The hey day of hooliganism was the 70s and 80s. Things are much better these days. (Now there's a phrase you don't read often in the Daily Mail )

You missed the...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

I think the increase in alcohol-related illness is not what some think. There were always drunk kids in England throwing up in the town center, but normal everyday middle class folks didn't always...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

But you don't seem to be looking at the whole picture. Instead you are ignoring the reality of the people you know (and all the people we know) and instead focusing solely on negative media stories....

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

No, but you could try reading the good along with the bad to gain some perspective. You could also try talking to real people back home.

But then you wouldn't be able to spend your days looking...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

Exactly. Here in the US unemployment is higher than in the UK, but there were still over 40 million jobs filled last year according to Dept of Labor stats.

Unfortunately, in economic hard times...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

I disagree with this. We've seen quite a few returnees in their 50s get jobs within just a few months. There are lots of vacancies in the UK right now. Yes, competition is tougher than before and it...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

One of our friends brought a copy over with him as a joke. I wasn't sure what to do with it, but then I needed something to put under the cats' litter tray in case they miss. Finally a good use!

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

Don't you have friends and family in the UK? If so, I recommend asking them how things are instead of pulling out all this rubbish from the media.

We've talked to tons of Brits about our move...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

I honestly think the British media concentrates on the negatives because that's what people in Britain want. As we've all commented before, Brits like nothing more than a good moan so the newspapers...

Re: Article about unhappy Britain

Most of my friends are really positive about the UK and wouldn't live anywhere else, but I do know some of the negative nellies - including my own mother.
