No, but you could try reading the good along with the bad to gain some perspective. You could also try talking to real people back home.

But then you wouldn't be able to spend your days looking for stuff to wind people up with

PS: 'respectable websites' doesn't include The Daily Mail.

There are definitely jobs to be had in the UK. My husband is in Scotland. His company went into administration about 2 weeks ago, and they laid him off last Monday. Thanks to doing some networking, he landed an interview and got a job offer last Thursday. Maybe it was just luck, being in the right place at the right time, but it just shows there are jobs out there. Its not all bad.

I guess it must be difficult for some people to get their head around the fact that Britain is a broken country, both socially and economically. The latest sad figures testify to that fact:

'Falling incomes will mean the biggest drop for middle-income families since the 1970s, says a report from the Institute for Fiscal Studies. The IFS forecasts two years "dominated by a large decline" in incomes, pushing 600,000 more children into poverty. By 2013 there will be 3.1 million children in poverty in the UK, according to the IFS projections.'--BBC. Not the Daily Mail.

We can all see the economic black hole, but how do we stop falling into it?

On Monday, various reports told us the UK was bottom of the global confidence league, 43pc of finance directors were preparing for a second recession while companies had delayed or cancelled £4.7bn of spending. Today, the Telegraph reports that the OECD's leading indicator fell for the seventh month in a row, pointing to a slowdown, and the British Chambers of Commerce warns on stagflation.--Daily Telegraph. I WONDER IF SHOUTING WILL HELP?

WE ARE NOT SAYING THAT THERE AREN'T PROBLEMS IN THE UK. YOU DON'T NEED TO 'PROVE' THIS TO US. WE ARE NOT ALL IGNORANT AND STUPID AS YOU SEEM TO THINK.

WHAT WE ARE SAYING IS THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE, EVEN IN JAPAN, AND MANY COUNTRIES ARE CURRENTLY WORSE OFF THAN THE UK.

THE INITIAL DISCUSSION WAS IN PART ABOUT THE UNRELIABILITY OF THE SURVEY PRESENTED, BECAUSE TO RATE A COUNTRY ON HOURS OF SUNSHINE AND THE COST OF CIGARETTES REALLY DOESN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING.

DO YOU EVEN TALK TO ANYONE IN THE UK ANYMORE? IT'S OBVIOUS THAT YOU THINK IT'S A DUMP, SO WHY ARE YOU EVEN IN THIS SECTION, WHERE THERE ARE PEOPLE STRUGGLING AND TRYING TO GET HOME? THERE'S A STICKY ON TOLERANCE AND UNDERSTANDING YOU MIGHT FIND INTERESTING TO READ. ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT IN THE PRESS SO MAYBE IT CANT BE ACCURATE?

ENJOY YOUR LIFE IN JAPAN. I'M SURE IT IS PERFECT THERE, UNLIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD.

Yes but read the whole point of the article Returnee:

Per Damian Reece:

"That's the dislocation, which has been highlighted before this year, between the macro outlook and what's really happening at an individual company level. That said, the former can eventually dictate the latter so reinforcing a circular and self-perpetuating loop of gloom. "

I noted that Justin King, CEO of Sainbury's complained that the Government were almost talking down the Uk economy with their seemingly endless mention of gloom and doom.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/n...ng-gloomy.html

Five days ago:

In: http://www.just-style.com/comment/te..._id112383.aspx

Sainsbury's chief executive Justin King also tried to be his usual effusive self, insisting there was too much "gloom and doom" around. He claimed next year's Olympic and Paralymic Games, and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, would lift consumer confidence in UK, even if, at the same time, he conceded economic conditions were unlikely to improve.

And Willie Walsh at BA (IAG):

Business therefore must find its own way out of the gloom. This week Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways' parent company, argued that conditions were not as bad as portrayed, and said he had "a very real concern that we are talking ourselves into recession".

Yes, I have posted, perhaps, too many negative reports about Britain. But, this topic, entitled Article about unhappy Britain, is about Britain and why people are unhappy. So, the articles I posted gave a strong indication as to why people may be unhappy. From Britain having the highest Obesity rate in Europe to families who have a member in work, but are having to go to food banks to survive, struck me as symbols of the unhappiness in Britain. Along with increasing unemployment and large increases in fuel bills (heat or eat). If I remember correctly, 10% of Britains want to leave the country. As an outsider it all makes worrying reading regarding someone who may want to return to Britain. Oh, I do have friends and family in England and they, unlike people mentioned in the news stories, are doing okay, but are concerned. I am trying to look at the overall picture, especially indications of what life will be like in Britain in the near future.
