Oh for gods sake give it a rest, yes the world is going through a very bad period, the UK doesn't seem to be doing it harder or easier than many other places. I speak to friends in the UK all the time and amazingly they manage to eat AND heat AND they are all working.

The way I see it, you can chose to be a statistic or you can use your grey matter to create a job for yourself. Start a small business or provide a service that's needed.

It's even worse in Japan apparently, I'm not sure where I read it but 11 out of 10 Japanese people drink to excess.

Faily Mail/Daily Wail, readers notwithstanding, you can't dispute the statistics regarding unemployent in the UK (yes, and elsewhere in the world).

However, the hysterical implication that this means no-one can get a job is laughable. Individuals are still getting jobs, and we are individuals, not statistics.

When unemployment is higher, it's the people at the bottom who suffer (poor skills, no qualifications, lower level of education, poor employment record, poor interviewing skills, poor work habits).

Maybe one can't get a job at the level you could, say, 5 years ago (most of the ads in my field are for entry-level positions), but that doesn't mean employment is impossible.

That article talks of at least as many women who are not nurses, teachers or mothers as those who are. It seems to be more about women drinking in general than the title suggests. I'm a mother, and would like to think intelligent, and have never done that. Even before I was a mother, even as a student with cheap alcohol available int he student bar..lol! It's a case of finding the minority to make a story that suits the purpose of the person writing it again. Which never happens at the Daily Mail...

I've just sat here and thought about all of the friends I have in the UK, and I think I know more people with a drinking attitude like that here in Canada. but again, that's just me, and statistics and the Daily Mail won't back that up, so I must be wrong.

There are bars and a drinking culture in every country I've been to. If a Daily Mail reporter and photographer hang around outside a club, then of course they're going to take pictures and meet drunk people.

I'm really not sure why you're posting these things? You seem to be going out of your way to find anything at all negative about Britain to post here. Maybe you should read a different newspaper sometimes? You know, just for a bit of balance and credibility?

And yes, I know it's a thread about an article about 'Unhappy Britain', and people were discussing that, but the stuff you're bringing in is from what is generally considered to be an unreliable source, and yet it keeps coming, and keeps being refuted, and you don't seem interested in anything else.
