Re: UK election - what happens now?

The party that wins the most seats is invited to form the next government, but it is still possible for a party with fewer seats to do so. That will not happen, as a Corbyn minority government will...

Re: UK election - what happens now?

I'm not trying to be pedantic, but the Tories did not win the election! Yes, they secured more seats than any of the opposition parties but won only 318 seats out of a total of 650 - or in other...

Re: BANIF/SANTANDER

Thanks capdan, that was all very helpful!
I set up everything with the new sign-on details with no problems, and then set up the mobile app, and was feeling very pleased with myself.

I then took...

Re: Public Transport - Faro Airport to Cabanas de Tavira

You can take the bus (or taxi) into Faro, and then probably two buses to Cabanas village (via Tavira) or one bus or train direct to Conceição. I'm not sure you can catch a direct bus to anywhere...

Re: BANIF/SANTANDER

Thanks for the tip about the mobile app. I just need to work out how to do a transfer now, as it seems an activation code is sent by SMS, but to local numbers only :(

Re: BANIF/SANTANDER

Well, changes seem to be complete, and everything appears to be OK. One minor issue though, there is lots of text describing how things work. It's all in Portuguese with no English version, which...

Re: Central Portugal Accountant Advice

I appointed Tony as my accountant last year, and gave him power of attorney to deal with my tax affairs last October. On receipt of the papers he told me he needed to get them translated, and I...

Re: Our first bad experience in PT.

Well I'm in the Algarve of course, and the Alentejo is very different indeed!

And, yes I agree with you totally. All the Portuguese people I know think their language is too difficult to learn,...

Re: New Pedestrian Crossing

I think it's unlikely a standard pedestrian crossing would be installed on the N125 at that particular point as it would be too dangerous, as it's effectively the Tavira by pass, and was built for...

Re: Our first bad experience in PT.

....and I have found that a little frustrating! I wanted to learn Portuguese, not necessarily to be fluent, but to make myself understood. Unfortunately, all the Portuguese people I know tell me not...

Re: Leasing a car in Portugal

I’d go along with most of the above comments, particularly about Goldcar who have bullied people into taking their excess insurance. They are a Spanish company who bought out some smaller...

Re: Places to look at

I think somebody did ask something like this once before :D

The problem with the Algarve east of Faro is that most towns are little more than large villages. The three municipalities of Tavira,...

Re: New to Driving in Portugal

Whereabouts in Portugal are you going? There is a mix of cash and electronic toll roads all over the country. There are "Welcome Points" for visitors, where you can register a credit card and your...

Re: Faro Airport to undergo a € 32.8 Million expansion

I used to like Faro Airport, and Lisbon Airport too, often busy - but laid back, just like the rest of Portugal!
But, it seems that as with airports in the UK there is now a desperate "dash for cash...

Re: What do you love about where you live?

When my wife and I decided to buy in the Algarve we stayed in a hotel, and drove along its entire length. There are some people who will not consider the region at all because it's so commercialised....

Re: Advice

I agree with the above comments. Initially it sounds like a good idea, but you will not have the freedom to choose which properties you see, and will effectively be stuck with a timetabled conducted...
