We live in Ferny hills but its a 10 minute walk to the station at Ferny grove or 2 minute drive when being lazy. There's a huge...

Re: Living Costs.....Families please help

I would love to know what it is people buy in their food budget that makes $200+ an absolute minimum. Most people on here seem to suggest you need $250+ or in one case $400+ ...

Seriously what is...

Re: LAFHA - Budget 2012/13

Back to the original issue, I think we have talked this to death and to be honest nearly everyone here agrees LAFHA was implemented poorly and was used by companies as a bargaining tool incorrectly...

Re: LAFHA - Budget 2012/13

The government expect companies to make up the difference this is ridiculous. So here are 2 people doing the same job in the same situation on lets say $70k per year, 1 is Australian and 1 is a temp...

Re: LAFHA - Budget 2012/13

The main issue I have is not giving any form of transition for people like me despite giving a transition for others claiming the same benefit. It's a bad joke.

Re: Cost of living

Very similar to the UK no huge surprises to worry about, on the whole cost of living is fairly equivalent, maybe a little cheaper in Australia.

I live in Brisbane, QLD and came from Leeds, UK

Re: how far does ~$65k get you in Queensland?

That doesnt look right to me at all, LAFHA is just an amount of your salary that is effectively protected from tax, it's not an amiunt in addition to your salary. So if your salary was $65k and you...

Re: how far does ~$65k get you in Queensland?

It'll most likely be $65k minus 9% that goes towards superanuation taking you to $59150

LAFHA can then be claimed on a reasonable proportion of that salary which basically makes that portion...

Re: IS IT REALLY THAT BAD OUT THERE NOW THEN

Re: IS IT REALLY THAT BAD OUT THERE NOW THEN

You said here $8 a schooner is £5, don't mean to be pedantic but thats only correct if you're a tourist spending pounds, if you live in Oz you will/should be earning around 2.2 times salary which...

Re: IS IT REALLY THAT BAD OUT THERE NOW THEN

This isn't right at all, I earn £30k and based on current stoppages will pay £6851.52 this year tax and NI so where the figure of £5505 on £35k comes from I have no idea. Unless that is just the...

Re: From UK to Brisbane..

Since you mention Toowong, seems quite a reasonable place rent wise and decent houses. Is it reasonable to walk into the CBD from there or would you say bus would be better?
