My view ex UK cop for what it is worth is that people have this impression that emigrating is the answer and leaving behind all the trials and tribulations of the UK is like escaping to freedom.

I was a PC in the UK emigrated to Canada year and a half ago as a permanent resident.

I am now in the process with Ottawa Police. You do need to be a perm' res' in Ontario for the Police Services...
