the easy answer to any 'skills shortage' in the construction sector is to remove the many government incentives and bonuses paid out at the taxpayers expense. :)

I remember someone who was in debt to the tune of £40k on credit cards. They kept on spending telling me, "you have to spend it while you have it". Obviously the term CREDIT is lost on some people.

I believe that On Arrival Accommodation has been scrapped (or is in the process of being) and they are selling off the houses.

when, in recent time, did we see drops of 15%? I don't even think many parts of the UK have seen drops of 15%, and the bubble there is supposedly burst.

I think anything more than a 10% increase...

I you are coming over to a job, that's a big plus.

Child Benefit /Family Tax Benefit payments will also help (if you are PR - they are paid fortnightly and will probably be around $300-$500)....

Truly sounds like a "get rich quick" scheme. You can't lose (if you have the money to invest).

My new rental agent shrugs off any suggestion that prices won't keep jumping up - says everyone...

Note: The old rule was 3.5x single salary, or 3x joint salary.

how long would it take to save for someone on an average wage (who we can assume is paying average rent etc...)?

I guess you could get a mortgage with 20% deposit in any city in the world with...

If there was an 80% drop across board, few would be able to afford it as there'd be mass unemployment, and banks wouldn't issue any new loans out of fear.

The majority of my friends are involved...

When looking at average wages... you have to realise that there is a greater difference in wages across the UK than there is across Australia. Additionally, the minimum wage is considerably different...

Governments are happy to invest in children (effectively using the parents own taxes) for a few short years in order to reap the rewards for many years to come (once those children hit working age)....

Can take several months to evict a non paying tenant, and even then they can end up trashing the house (and stealing).

a South Korean police officer who carried out the largest known incident of spree killing in modern history. After the rampage concluded, 57 people (including himself) were dead and 35 were wounded...

Every country has it's problem areas.

Here, like the UK, gun crime is usually drug related (there are a few armed robberies of security vans too).
