Settlement visa is what you need to apply for. Ours took 2 months from application to having the visa in OH passport. Of course timings may well have changed since then.

Yes it is easier if you remain on the electrol role as an overseas. Of course this doesn't help us as my OH is canadian and not entitled to vote, but of course he is the one in f/t employment.
