Re: Applying for citizenship from the U.K

Have you thought about working in a preschool or as an educational assistant in a school until you can get your citizenship? Not as much money as teaching, I know, but your qualifications should be...

Re: Cost of children's extra-curricular activities in Canada?

The coaches at one son's club are from the UK and played professionally there. The coach who now does the tech training was on the technical staff at Man City. The goalkeeping coach is Canadian but...

Re: Cost of children's extra-curricular activities in Canada?

Yep, afraid so. It's not cheap - a lot more than my friends pay for their kids' soccer in our old home town.

But that is what it costs here - and as I said before, it is the fact you have to...

Re: Cost of children's extra-curricular activities in Canada?

One son plays here in town, the other plays for a club in Calgary. For the one in Calgary, he has four to five sessions of team training or technical training a week, plus one session a week...

Re: Cost of children's extra-curricular activities in Canada?

I think one of the hard things for children's activities here is that you pay up-front rather than paying weekly. So at this time of year we pay out $500 per child as a lump sum for the outdoor...

Re: Cost of children's extra-curricular activities in Canada?

Competitive soccer - just short of $2000 per year for one son (indoor and outdoor seasons), plus heaven knows how many pairs of goalie gloves a year, plus tournaments etc. About $1000 a year for...

Re: Structural Engineer considering a move

I'm not sure what a minimum salary would be with five years experience.

My husband had about twenty years experience when we came here and he did take a drop in salary initially, from what he...

Re: Structural Engineer considering a move

My husband is a structural engineer in Calgary. We moved here six years ago.

At that time several companies who were members of the Consulting Engineers of Alberta went over to the UK...

Re: Cat Owners...are the Canadians reinventing the wheel?

We have four cats. The three younger ones all drink from a cat water fountain (which is plugged in all the time and doesn't make any noise unless the water level is too low).

We actually bought...

Re: Flights to Calgary in Dec and waiting on work permits in UK

Our flights were full there and back - full on the way out with ex-pats going over for Christmas and full on the way back with tourists clutching ski bags!!

Re: Flights to Calgary in Dec and waiting on work permits in UK

They are the only ones who fly direct from Manchester to Calgary. So it looks like everyone will have to go via London if they want to travel in winter this year. Not great. Will bump the price of...

Re: Flights to Calgary in Dec and waiting on work permits in UK

They were flying direct from Calgary to Manchester in the December to February period up until now. We went to the Uk for Christmas 2011 on an Air Transat flight direct to Manchester and came back...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

A timeline of about twelve months seems to be the norm for everyone I know of here who has got their citizenship recently.

Re: has anyone used pickfords or gb liners

We used the Manchester depot of GB Liners in 2007. They weren't the cheapest but were the most helpful. Great team who came to pack. Our stuff went into storage with them for a few weeks and was...

Re: German police check translation

Is the translation requirement a recent thing? I also had to get a German police check for our PR application and I didn't have to send in a translation with mine. That was four years ago.

Re: CITIZENSHIP TIMELINE SHARE

Think you're told in advance when you get the test date letter, if you are having the ceremony on the same day (based on the people I know who have done it in the last year or so). So if you were...

Re: More f***ing snow

I'm ******** sick of it too. The tops of the leaves of lots of my flower bulbs are hidden under all that snow - I know because I saw them for a few days before they were hidden yet again!

Re: what do we all do when we are not skiing, photographing bears and living the drea

Re: Commutes to Calgary

I certainly don't think your realtor should be using that as a selling point for the town.

Apparently the population of Okotoks has been "capped" several times over the years - and then gets...
