Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

I have a laptop with a 15.4" screen which I carry in a padded neoprene sleeve. My drive is quite large (it's a couple of years old) and my camera is not a particularly fancy one. If I were carrying...

Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

Yep, and lugging it around the already crowded airport and trying to squeeze into a toilet cubicle with it (if you're on your own). Airports are bad enough without adding to the misery by dragging a...

Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

Anyone flying out of or transiting a UK airport is restricted to just one item of hand luggage, "period". This is a Department for Transport rule and it will override anything imposed (or relaxed)...

Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

If only it were like that for most of us. Ahh the joys of melatonin :)

I was once woken by the thud as the plane "touched down" (more like thudded down) to the announcement "Welcome to...

Re: Phone Interviews for jobs

When I was interviewed (in person) for my job the salary was barely mentioned. Only much later, long after I started, did I learn that I could have negotiated the numbers. Apparently they...

Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

It wouldn't be so bad if people actually had some comprehension of volume and packing... many's the time I've played tetris with those big wheeled cases to make some room for my backpack.

Re: where were you when...

Driving from Orlando to Miami on a family holiday. We didn't have the radio on and as we drove through Fort Lauderdale looking for a spot of lunch we noticed that virtually every house had a flag...

Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

I wonder if this is a recent crackdown? I flew out of LGW in mid-July and plenty of ladies were putting their handbags inside a larger shopping bag and weren't told to go back and check one of them.

Re: Heathrow Airport- Hand Luggage.

I had the same issue as you. So I bought a padded neoprene zip-up 'sleeve' sort of thing for my laptop. Now I just put my laptop in the sleeve and then into a normal backpack. The padding is...

Re: Which US bank do you use?

A friend of mine banks with Compass and they do indeed refund the ATM fees. However they also charged a $50 fine for going slightly into the red by a few $. So it's swings and roundabouts. Compass...

Re: Mosquitos ... prevention & cure

[QUOTE=penguinsix;5240639]You should check around for any standing water near your house. Gutters, a pot, a wetland or anything of the such. Those are nesting areas for mosquitos and it is best to...

Re: Mosquitos ... prevention & cure

Someone recommended Windex to me, which sounds silly but it actually works. The ammonia in Windex is an anti-histimine and it relieves the urge to scratch. The downside is you feel a bit of a fool...

Re: How long is your commute to work ?

10 minutes by bike.

Re: State Selection:Sun and Snow

You first need the offer of the job, and then the prospective employer starts the visa application process on your behalf. The visa type is determined by the the type of work you'll be doing. J...

Re: State Selection:Sun and Snow

Arizona. Phoenician sun in summer, Flagstaffian snow in winter. They're only about two hours from one-another, but worlds apart in geography and climate.

Re: Outrageous Cost Of Funerals - $10,000!

I like the idea of an environmentally-friendly funeral. Cardboard coffin and back to nature. I can see why people would be attracted to a top quality coffin (even with the concrete case - a new one...

Re: Talking of hot ....

You must have a swamp cooler? My house is only AC :( I wish I had dual cooling

I keep it at 80F except at night when I set it at 75F. It's pretty humid here now so ceiling and tower fans aren't...

Re: Cross the U.S. speaking only Spanish, can it be done?

Oh I don't know. A lot of Spanish is spoken here, but there are also plenty of non-Spanish speakers who don't like the bilingual thing and are very much opposed to the use of Spanish in vaguely...
