Agree, the kid was travelling alone with a fair amount of cash. But it appears that robbery was not the only motivation - they were vicious and rather sadistic in their attack - could have happened...

Just a couple of primary schools that I looked at - most had a short 20 min "fruit break" and then a 1 hour lunch break (12:30 - 1:30).

Thanks - I did check out metlink and the peak travel times mentioned there appear to be far lower than in reality. I was specifically looking at travelling from Balwyn N to Flinders Street Station...

Car Rental companies in Melbourne...

We would need to hire a small sedan when we get there (basically to travel short distances for house hunting etc) for around 2 months. Any idea how much it would cost us and which rent-a-car company...

We chose Melbourne - I don't think I'd survive the extreme cold for 6 (or more) months of the year (Mel is cold, but not that cold)! At least there's no snow to shovel every morning:)
