Re: Homesick

Only to take stock before breaking a life long investment. I think that is only fair. Anyway s.o.s. we disagree - no matter - all the best, and good luck

Re: Homesick

The fact is cls is married. Let her work it out and not be swayed by the experiences of others who have had bad ones. Anyway, I think at the risk of pride getting in the way on all sides of this, we...

Re: Homesick

cls

Re: Homesick

Yes that is very true, Christmas, that is. I struggled with this for years, but I eventually reconciled myself with the fact that I could always visit the UK at that time if I really had to. It's not...

Re: Homesick

We don't know enough about the situation and so answers are generalisations, but I would be reticent to even consider offering solutions about 'escaping'. It also depends on what you consider...

Re: Aus Tax advice needed wrt sale of UK property

I have seen to the contrary, with HMRS applying penalties, but they are of course penalties, not saying in this case.

Re: BBC Wanted Down Under - Series 9

Bring back the Skeggs family. They were good for a laugh. I'm sure they were edited for effect, but they seemed decent enough to me, and down to Earth, thinking back.

Re: Thinking of moving to Aus and need HELP.

I would say Brisbane is the City that will boom from now for a long time. It has the climate, the big city infrastructure, jobs, tropical beaches, mild winters.

Re: Homesick

Hi cls
Your marrriage is by far the most important thing. I think all expats to a greater or lesser degree miss home. For me its not all things, but just a few: going for a pint with my brother,...

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

... and yet nobody bats an eyelid as India do likewise and, oh, that's right; they haven't signed the N.N.P.T either.

... and yet we sell uranium to them (because it's all about the money).

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

I fear America more than I fear China...much more.

Just remember that America is controlled by a Corporate Monopoly which has an insatiable appetite for profit: war, death, greed, sovereignty, oil...

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

But I think you have focused on what Qantas Management what you to focus on.. the workers.

This is an old ploy. And just remember that Qantas IS profitable.

The real spotlight needs to fall on...

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

We will agree to disagree: for me you can be competitive and profitable and pay a highly skilled workforce in a country like Australia. What you do is stop paying incredible amounts of the profits to...

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

I disagree. Australian workforce is highly skilled but profiteering ensures that skills are kept offshore. Look at Qantas - skills being sent offshore to make the company 'more competitive' -...

As you can see, we have moved on.

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

That is the nature of capitalist propaganda, where the profits of TNCs are at stake etc. Can you give me examples of widespread needs that Australia import in which they cannot organise themselves?

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

Well not really. International trade is one thing but reliance on another nation for your economic future - all or bust - is something else.

And in light of Australia's cosying up to America, in a...

Re: Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world

Dear oh dear.

Anyway, I suppose to stick to the requests of the moderators we should get back on tack.

Australia has not got a strong economy.

Strength comes from within. Australia rests on...

I will take up the issue by PM, for I can see that the moderators, in public at least, are prepared to...
