Re: Fergus, Ontario

Nice town, not too far from Guelph-KW-Cambridge which is a fairly large urban area. Gives you the advantages of a small town and you're not too far from more intense action, should you desire it....

Re: Pros Vs Cons

Is this a word for word re-run of an older therad or am I dreaming? Weird, seems like I've read these two posts before....

Re: Feelings oin the Web

Funny, I'm not a Christian but do enjoy Christmas. The "consumerism" that so many people complain about doesn't bother me one bit.

As for the majority of Canadians, my 1998 New York Times Almanac...

Re: Metric or imperial

I understand both sides of this: I was born in Czechoslovakia (metric), educated in the UK and now living in Canada. I have no problem with either system and can translate easily back and forth. I...

Re: How hard

That's harsh! You think physicians and engineers who drive cabs shouldn't complain about this sad state of affairs?

As an aside: my daughters, both Canadian citizens who at the time lived with...

Re: How bad is Canadian TV?

For the record - I live in Toronto and don't know about other TV markets

Last night I watched a couple of fine shows on TVO: an Israeli documentary and the often informative Studio 2. I followed...

Re: Honest Opinion About Emigrating From UK to Canada

Don't mean to be rude but when was the last time you were in London (not sure about other places in the U.K.) and not tipped a waiter or a cabbie? I do agree, though, that 15% is not an unwritten...

Re: Canadian radio - back to the 1980!

The easy rock disease has all of North America in its sickening grip. You can drive from Toronto to Miami and keep listening to Phil Collins/Bruce Springsteen/Eagles etc...all the way down. Playlists...

Re: Top Eight Reasons Not To Immigrate To Canada

Can't comment on #7 and #6 should not be too steep a learning curve but otherwise spot on! I'd add two of my own: mullet haircuts (related to your #5) and "awsome!!!" (related to your #3). And boy,...

Re: Top Eight Reasons Not To Immigrate To Canada

I don't get any sense whatsoever this is "neo-con" - where do you get that? It's just another disgruntled medical graduate who has benefited from a Canadian education and now has found his place...

Re: Top Eight Reasons Not To Immigrate To Canada

Ehm.....so you think taxes are not too high? I don't agree with most of the other points and don't think I have a "western outlook" but find the taxes outrageous

Re: Who's ahead with Texhnology, UK or Canada?

Interesting topic! My last Euro trip was to Prague, not to the UK so this may be off the mark but I made the follwoing observation: they are way ahead of Canada in the use of mobile phones, texting...

Re: Info on areas of Mississauga

When my kids were growing up we had a townhouse in the Meadowvale/Streetsville area of Mississauga. It was - and is - a great place for kids with the added bonus of Streetsville being an older...

Re: Winnipeg Free Press Headline...

I second that! The worst newspapers in the English speaking world (with the exception of USA Today) I used to like the National Post but no longer. The Globe & Mail is an excellent sleeping aid. The...

Re: Markham, Ontario. Info wanted....

Well, it would be nice not to have to drive a hundred miles but you're right, I'll take what I can get. As to your assertion that there doesn't seem to be any need for change, I seem to recall Paul...

Re: Markham, Ontario. Info wanted....

I know from personal experience that unlike Ontario, Sweden allows user fees. Overall, their system is incomparably better.

I have done and will, no doubt, do again!

Re: Gay Marriage

Gotta love that: throw a slur at someone ("homophobe") and that's it! End of argument. You win! How persuasive - NOT!!

Besides, what is a "homophobe", anyway? "Homo" = man, "phobia" = fear. How...
