Re: Asian Boom Down Under

I figured it was just a matter of time before this thread turned to American-bashing. Unlike the Brits, Americans are not desperate to leave our country in great numbers, for Australia or anywhere...

Re: Wildlife watching in Aus.

Actually its been nearly a decade since I changed careers & I'm a bit rusty, but hope to get back into it as a hobby when I get to Aus. Thats great to hear about Armidale; I'll have to remember that....

Re: Wildlife watching in Aus.

This is part of the same reason I'm emigrating to Aus, although for me its the reptiles. I used to be a herpetologist and Aus is hard to beat for Squamate reptile diversity. The entire top 3rd of the...

Re: Balancing worklife & family (Working hours?)

Wheezy,

I can tell you why American lawyers work such long hours- because most attorneys fees are billed hourly and associates in most Firms have minimum annual billable hour requirements (usually...

Re: Balancing worklife & family (Working hours?)

I wish you were right, but you aren't. There is plenty of dead weight in all American companies/firms and they ought to be afraid of being fired but they generally aren't. Fortunately most employment...

Re: Miami Vs Brisbane (with a contraversial bit) OOOH!

Regardless of the airport they are all the same agency (Transportation Security Admin., which is part of the Dept. of Homeland Security). I think what happens is that bags are randomly searched and...

Re: Miami Vs Brisbane (with a contraversial bit) OOOH!

Thats a good point. It would be real hard for me to live in Miami & be married, much less w/ kids. I've been known to complain that the live music scene in Seattle is weak compared to Dallas, Denver...

Re: Miami Vs Brisbane (with a contraversial bit) OOOH!

I'm not so sure about that. That is, i'm not sure anyone who has been to Vegas would call Brisbane 'Brisvegas'. Vegas never sleeps- its the same sensory overload 24/7 365 days/year. On the other...

Re: Australia's one-income families the second-highest-taxed in the OECD.

Funny, I lived in California and can't seem to find any bullet holes... the main reason Californians leave the state is the high tax/high cost of living. Cal. has the highest taxes in the US (9%...

Re: Miami Vs Brisbane (with a contraversial bit) OOOH!

Hello,

I have not been to Surfers Paradise/Gold Coast yet but have been to Brisbane a couple of times and have spent extensive time in South Florida, esp. when I was younger. As far as the...

Re: certfied copies in the US

You have been duped. Notary publics notarize passports all the time. (I was a notary public for 5 years & I have staff that notarize docs such as passports for my clients).

Re: 3 Reasons for the Move to OZ?

Sorry- I am not this person "Franklin" that you speak of. Although I am American I am not "rabidly pro-American" nor have I made any posts to that effect on this or any other forum (you can easily...

Re: 3 Reasons for the Move to OZ?

Ha! Your unimaginitive brand of anti-Americanism is hardly worth the effort of sending hate mail. Nice pic though.

Re: What's the main reason...

Brian,

Once you have US citizenship you can move to Aus with no worries. US citizenship can only be revoked if acquired via fraud/material misrepresentation or lost by affirmative renunciation....

Re: Cost of Medical Exam In USA

You have to go to a designated panel Dr. You can find the list on the DIMIA website. Our meds cost $380 apiece, but that included the chest X-rays & postage to OZ.

Re: What is form 1221????.

Its a 'change in circumstances' form- pretty self-explantory. They send them with the acknowledgments, but perhaps there is a specific reason they want you to complete it. I'm sure the cover letter...

Re: Shall we stay or go - the saga continues ...

This seems to be the way a lot of Aussies do business- this has happened to both my wife and me with potential employers there. They also tend to either show up late or not at all for meetings there....

Re: Where and why?

Voted Sydney but Melbourne's still slightly in the running. The reasons- job prospects for both of us & they are the only cities in Oz that are big enough for us.
