We have a proper summer. November to about May its pretty much guaranteed to be between 25 and 35C (with the odd day now and again when it hits 40C)
We spend as much time outside as possible.

The temperature in TAS, VIC and NSW is cool to mild most of the year except in summer when you get a few hot or humid days.

But I checked out the summer (not the official summer I know, the Perth one
) averages for Perth, Cairns, Brisbane & Sydney. From November to April here are the averages:
Perth
Humidity ranges from 38 - 47%
Number of Rain days over this period = 24 (I think weve had about 5 so far and you'd hardly call it rain, fiingers crossed for March and April then!)
Cairns
Humidity ranges from 64 - 72%
Number of Rain days over this period = 87
Brisbane
Humidity ranges from 60 - 64%
Number of Rain days over this period = 67
Sydney
Humidity ranges from 58 - 64%
Number of Rain days over this period = 73
So I still vote Perth

Just checked:
Melbourne
Humidity ranges from 46 - 54%
Number of Rain days over this period = 56
Hobart
Humidity ranges from 61 - 72%
Number of Rain days over this period = 65
One other stat that some people might find helpfull when choosing is the mean temp over this 6 month period. (taken at 3pm)
Perth = 27C
Cairns = 29C
Brisbane=26C
Sydney=22.3C
Melbourne=22C
Hobart= 18.5C

Konichiwa Peter & Claire,
I can't comment on Melbourne as I haven't visited, but we moved to Brisbane because we liked Brisbane city as its not quite as big as Sydney yet has excellent facilities such as Southbank beach and Botanic Gardens.
Most people I know suffer the hot and humid Queensland summer because of the much more agreeable temperatures you get for the rest of the year. And the nearby countryside and beaches are excellent, my faves are Bribie island, Mt Tamborine and Daisy Hill forest.
Cheers

Sydney- Hi everyone, just want to introduce myself to the site, have bought a house in Sydney cos we love the place so much, although a bit high on prices we hope to make lots and move to the central coast (NSW) or Gold coast when we retire. We stayed away from the main part of the city and opted for the southern suberb of Sutherlandshire, such a beautiful part of Sydney which has good transport routes and is only 10 mins from the beach

Sydney - love it - one of the world's fab cities IMO.
reasons for living here include:
- work
- climate
- surrounding nature
- city amenities
a bit expensive, but worth it.

Voted Sydney but Melbourne's still slightly in the running. The reasons- job prospects for both of us & they are the only cities in Oz that are big enough for us.
