Re: Job offer and sponsorship - what's next?

I deliberately ignored the L1 as the OP said they had no operations in the UK.

On the H-1B, if the employee has a masters in a relevant field, or is paid at least $60k per year, the employer does...

Re: Job offer and sponsorship - what's next?

A couple of things...

On an H visa, IRS typically considers you resident for tax payment, therefore your taxes are not higher.

If you are a strong candidate, you might ask about an O-1 visa,...

Re: Recent UK Graduate - Trying to plan ahead

As far as chemistry goes outside academia, a bachelor's can get you a lab job where you are doing everyone else's bidding, perhaps running reactions for folks, or doing routine analysis. You are...

Re: Recent UK Graduate - Trying to plan ahead

Ain't that the truth? And yep, the irony is super strong on this subject.

Re: Recent UK Graduate - Trying to plan ahead

A lot of the time, STEM PhDs in the US are fully funded by the department they study in. For example, my chemistry PhD was fully funded with moderate living expenses. I only had to pay to get myself...

Re: Recent UK Graduate - Trying to plan ahead

Some good advice above. What you propose is possible, but definitely not easy. If you stay in the UK for now, you should plan on advancing your career there for a while since the odds of a quick...

Re: When do we expect Trump to lift the travel ban against UK?

OTOH, some interesting questions come to mind. Would the opportunity (threat) of a stab in the arm increase the number of mailed in ballots, or decrease the turnout? Or both? Who would...

Re: Price of gas update...

Filled up at $1.59/gal today. Not even usually the cheapest place around. Might be the last time for a while I need gas.

Re: Showing Proof of Previous Salary

They shouldn’t need proof. Either they think you’re worth it, or they don’t.

Re: TSA PreCheck Experience

I did GE last year (also paid by the credit card). Took a couple of weeks to get the interview. Interview was about 5 minutes, and I got the KTN on the spot. Card came about a week later.

Re: Did the US Deport a USC?

Speaking purely to the title of the thread, it happens fairly frequently. Some sources say at least a couple hundred a year. A guy who had done some work on my car got detained by ICE without...

Re: Is it true that 70% of Americans don't have passports?

The TSA guys keep warning me that I need to get a Real ID DL every time I go through security. Since I have four other Real IDs, not particularly concerned.

For what it's worth, *MOST* folks on...

Re: L-1B renewal trip.

A visa is only to enter the country. If you have status that extends beyond the visa, you probably don’t need a new visa until you leave the US for any other trip.

Re: Fitness...do you?

Cool. I have an indoor rower at home. I have about 100 days in hotels this year and that rower is the thing that keeps my exercise grounded. I keep monthly targets on the rower while everything else...

Re: Fitness...do you?

Yeah, being sent home with painkillers is a red flag. Those who serve the sports and athletic communities have a surprising number of effective tools that more mainstream medical professionals don’t...

Re: Trying to buy land in America, hopefully Arizona.

You might be surprised. I live at 7,000 feet - the running joke here is that if you buy six-foot tomato plants, they’ll end up three feet tall by summer, but at least you’ll have tomatoes.
