Actually we used a Spanish customs agency who cost us just over €100,and they sorted everything for us.
We had to pay just under €1000 in taxes, which they reclaimed back for us within a month...

I would def recommend Castalla. It's about 30 minutes inland, but up in the hills. Amazing walking/hiking trails. Woodlands everywhere, with breath taking views. There are around a dozen or so towns...
