You by pass the usual "criteria" of having a job etc initially by paying a few months in advance usually, this is what will be doing next month, if you peruse these forums you will see many people...

Kids adapt really easily, It's us parents who worry the most in that regard. British schools are REALLY good at helping kids catch up, and they do prefer not to hold kids back, but of course they do...

I was advised to keep my Aussie number until all sorted in the UK especially for the Bank Transfers, I'm with NAB and they do actually accept International numbers, BUT you do have to call to arrange...

Regarding renting the work around is to pay in advance, they do make exceptions for new arrivals, not everything is black and white ;) It will depend on the agent/landlord some people...
