Re: The Traveler

I agree Pom_Chch. Most people who emigrate have that void (longing) for something else when they embark on the move. That same sense of longing, which is often an underlying general dissatisfaction...

Re: Medicals for sponsored Visa

In regards to the medicals: Kidney stones aren't really going to cause a problem unless it's related to an ongoing chronic medical condition. Depression and anxiety are very common conditions that...

Re: Thinking about a New Zealand move

Welcome! We moved over last year: we're a couple in our mid 30s with no children. Our experiences. Your experience will obvious vary depending on your interests and current standard of living.

Re: Student loan repayments

I can't comment on the specifics that you asked about; however, what I would suggest is to keep a very clear paper trail. The Student's Loan company is pretty awful to deal with - a government owned...

Re: Another post looking for advice on where to live please..

Funnily enough we move from Somerset to Kapiti at the end of Oct. We actually rented weekly with airbnb initially as it allowed us to move around the different areas easily and chat to the owners...

Re: Baggage Allowance - flying to UK by Qatar Airways

Glad you found your answer. We flew with China Airlines (great experience) and they have a similar 30kg weight limit. We took 3 lots of hold luggage (2 suitcases and a backpack) and the weight limit...

Re: Good places to buy ...

Many thanks MF and Clappy- will keep an eye on Briscoes and The Warehouse. Are we talking Argos / Ikea standard of quality?

Good places to buy ...

Hello BE'rs

Soon to be arriving on Aotearoa! Will be needing to pick up a mattress and duvet and some pots and pans - any suggestions on where we can pick these up around Wellington or Palmy? Not...

Re: Kapiti Coast: Paraparamua/ Otaki /Levin?

Thanks for the replies. We're not actually working in Welly (which i did point out in my follow-up post), so we won't have to worry about daily commutes into the city. It seems like as long as you...

Re: Kapiti Coast: Paraparamua/ Otaki /Levin?

Thanks for the heads up about the road proposals - that explains why there's so much for sale north of Levin (Foxton / Shannon in particular). So i guess it would be unwise to buy north of Levin...

Re: Kapiti Coast: Paraparamua/ Otaki /Levin?

Thanks for the rapid reply MrsFrychan. Partner is actually working along the Kapiti Coast, which opens up potential areas to live along the region to Palmerston North (at a push) down to Paraparaumu....

Hey folks,

We're looking to move over to North of Welly within the next few months - our Visa application (long term essential work visa) has been sent and are just waiting on processing. We're...

Re: Am I over-judging Canada?

That still happens a great deal here, despite Royal Mail being a privately owned company now. I use to have to open the door when I saw the postie so he wouldnt just fob me off with one of those...

Re: BC vs ON

If you're considering having a family soon then the other benefit of being on the Ontario side is the time difference between the UK - it does make things a lot easier with keeping in contact with...

Re: BC vs ON

I don't think those concerns were really mentioned by the original poster, whereas lifestyle and economic prospects were. A lot of those tensions you mention are more to do with politics and agenda...

Re: What is wrong with people?

You could equally argue that they're just rising to the surface after being buried systematically by organisations looking to safeguard their own interests. I think a lot of this swell is due to the...

Re: BC vs ON

Erm, you can equally play that game from a Canadian perspective:

"Consequence of NAFTA crumbling i.e. Recession". Canadian companies get rid of their employees fairly quickly during downturns. In...

Re: BC vs ON

I totally agree but I think B.C (as a token child of today's Instagram culture) can give a false impression of the reality of life in Canada. Vancouver is considered dull, Victoria is even duller...

Re: BC vs ON

It sounds like you're relatively happy where you are currently - is the upheaval/ risk worth the adventure? Previously (and for many older expats), it made a lot of sense financially to move, but...

Re: What is wrong with people?

Such tosh. Firstly, many women (and men) in long-term relationships are forced into having sex by their partner against their wishes. Secondly, there is a difference between being sexually receptive...

Re: What is wrong with people?

Exactly. There was a perceptible desperation in the guys skewed gaze and girls overzealous jumping. Not too mention the food and beer were subpar - which was inexcusable. I agree many girls use it to...

Re: What is wrong with people?

Interesting that you pointed hooters out - massively flopped over here. :p It was seen as naf.

Excusing men for their apparent inability to control themselves is condoning such behaviour. As a...
