Re: Relocating to Penang

We are thinking about relocating to Penang from April or May. I'd be happy to receive advice based on others' experiences. The Penang social thread on here seems to have petered out lately, do people...

Re: My Travel Pass - returning home to Malaysia

I was told on arrival at KLIA, after signing up for the hotel that I could have applied for home quarantine but beyond saying that it was by a separate email there was no other information.
So I...

Re: Resident Pass - good idea?

Now that’s interesting! Do you pay income tax on income that comes from overseas?

Re: Resident Pass - good idea?

Hi Ian, yes my plan is to ask for the maximum this time. I’d really like to know about residency. It’s all a bit opaque - like most things! I think if you’re not “earning” in Malaysia you still don’t...

Re: My Travel Pass - returning home to Malaysia

Yeah, didn’t even get the chance to apply. As soon as I selected Vietnam from the country of origin menu it was BANG! 14 days hotel without the option!

Re: My Travel Pass - returning home to Malaysia

Update. I made it home. Currently in very expensive quarantine! What a saga. In the end they wanted to know about my job in Vietnam - though what that has to do with the process I don’t know. That’s...

Resident Pass - good idea?

Hi everyone! Advise and experiences please. I’ve had my Long Term Social Visit Pass for 3 years (1 year at a time!) and I wonder whether applying for Resident status is a good move or not. One...

Re: Returning to Malaysia - HOME Quarantine?

No. Never heard of that. My wife searched through the application firm and supporting guides and found no trace of it. I actually explained the purpose of travel on the form itself online. But as we...

Re: Returning to Malaysia - HOME Quarantine?

I’ve never heard of a letter of intention and it’s nowhere mentioned in any of the guidance fir filling in the form. What is it and how did you hear about it?

My Travel Pass - returning home to Malaysia

Hi All,
I'm presently working in Vietnam and I want to get home to Malaysia (KL). I'm a Brit and married to a Malaysian citizen. I have been struggling with the My Travel Pass application process...

Re: Returning to Malaysia - HOME Quarantine?

Can I ask what is the real process for the MyPass application? I’m married to a Malaysian citizen and I’m working in Vietnam and want to come back to Malaysia to my family.
The online application...

Re: MM2Hers stuck outside

This makes no sense whatsoever - though I’m unsurprised as it’s par for the course from Sabri. It takes no account of the present rates of infection, only the historical number of reported cases...

Re: Suspension Of Conversion of Foreign Driving Licence to Malaysia Driving Lice

A very interesting thread. Lots of talk about MM2H paperwork but what about us on LTSVP? Are there restrictions?

Also if I understand correctly, even though I have a full motorcycle license...

Re: MM2Hers stuck outside

I feel very sorry for the MM2H holders. I have a LSVP and fortunately for me I’m stuck in Malaysia rather than outside. I’m very glad that I didn’t go down the MM2H route with all its commitments as...

Re: Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP or LTVP)

LSVP renewal

I applied to renew my LSVP at Jalan Duta today. The process took 5 hours - despite having all paperwork prepared.

The latest news is that there are no more 5 year passes.

I...

Re: Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP or LTVP)

Thank you Ian, next time I'm in town we'll go along with all the paperwork. Perhaps using the old term "spouse pass" might get a better response. Oddly enough on the CIMB website there is an expat...

Re: Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP or LTVP)

Bank Accounts. I am now totally confused about the ability to open a bank account as a holder of a LSVP. Has anyone done it? If so, when and with which bank?
My wife called CIMB this morning and...

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

The latest in this saga is that my wife (Malay, so no cross cultural confusion there) phoned CIMB and was told that "a visa" is required to open a bank account - a LSVP will not do. In modern...

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

Actually he didn’t ask, he merely stated that I need a work permit despite being told that a) I don’t work in Malaysia, b) I work in Bangkok and lastly c) that I work in Thailand.
To me that...

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

On the contrary. LSVP forbids work although you can get that changed - apparently - if you have an offer of employment.
However that irrelevant as I work overseas.

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

indeed I do have a LSVP, which I showed them. Is it the case that only a joint account is possible? All I want is a bog standard current account into which I can pay my UK pensions.

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

Opening a current account. I just went to Maybank and CIMB in KLCC. Neither can open a bank account on a Saturday.
Maybank: only Joint Account is possible for a LSVP Holder - never heard of that...
