Re: Social security and EAD ? Couple of questions

Be prepared to wait up to 7.5 months for your EAD, thats the current processing time on the USCIS website. Look at what everyone else said about the SS as its correct. I'm an E2 spouse and got my SS...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

In principle that’s fine but if the organisation themselves advertise for a communications volunteer does that make it fair game for me to do? They aren’t going to pay anyone regardless of my...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

I understand that but plenty of organisations advertise volunteer roles which are specialised, and I happen to work in an industry (arts/culture) which attracts a few of these types of roles. It...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

I’d never heard of anyone having their EAD expedited outside of this forum. Our lawyers put a lot of fear in us about “breaching” our visas or even “looking like we might” break the visas, eg I was...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

The 'just apply' goes against what our immigration lawyers told me to do. They said, that if I applied to anything without the EAD to hand, it would look to USCIS like I was trying to breach my visa...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

Maste apologies for implying you had done something morally untowards, I was feeling very frustrated on Friday as I've seen two great jobs neither of which I can apply for as I'm only 2 months into...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

That probably does make a difference. I think there are many of us being driven crazy waiting for the EAD to continue with our careers, I was hoping their was a way to fast track it but probably not...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

thanks Rene, but surely with the crazy 4-8 month wait for the EAD it’s a bit off to apply and interview for jobs until you have it in hand? Our solicitors told me that I had to wait until I had the...

Re: 403(b) retirement plan

Congratulations on the job and you've got great advice on the pension fund. But I'm surprised you applied and interviewed for a job before your EAD arrived. I've been told that's a breach of...

Re: Applying for SSN

Thanks Silvergirl that’s exactly what I was trying to say, the spouse doesn’t need to wait for the EAD application to get the SSN

Voltage transformers? Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a voltage transformer for a U.K. sewing machine that is 75W and another that is 135W? I’ve seen some on amazon but am wary of the 5* reviews. Thanks!

Re: Applying for SSN

The spouse can apply for the SSN without a EAD if you are applying together (same appointment and both there) with the qualified persons eg the person with the original visa. Then all the banking,...

Re: Applying for SSN

I think something must have happened to the EAD systems as 1 year ago it was taking 6-8 weeks and now it’s much much longer, much closer to 6 months than 6 weeks. It’s a wait and see type of thing...

Re: Applying for SSN

The visa interview was fine, the main question to answer is “why you can only you do this job and why can’t the company hire an American do it?”. That was the crucial thing about the interview. Your...

Applying for SSN

We've finally landed this week, after almost 8-9 months of planning and waiting. However after doing some research and maybe not enough of it, I need some help with the SSN. As far as I can tell, the...

Re: Areas to rent in Manhattan or Brooklyn

Thats a really good idea. I've been slightly confused by the different 'labels' of buildings, condo, co-op, and the differences between them. I think we want a new build and if it had outside space...

Question Areas to rent in Manhattan or Brooklyn

In the next few months we are moving for my husband's job to NYC. Unfortunately due to timings we don't have time for a scoping trip and I've never been to NYC. Friends have advised for us to avoid...

Re: L visas timelines?

Are L1B visas stricter or more time consuming to receive?

Re: L visas timelines?

He isn’t a manager of a team or individual. Does that means it’s automatically L1-B? That seems much harder to get. I saw a posting a few days ago on here of someone who had theirs rejected.

I’m...

Re: L visas timelines?

The uncertainly is that they haven’t said to us which one they will be going for, so I’m left scratching my head. There seems to be an internal assumption as they moved a member of staff a few years...
