Re: Spouse salary threshold to rise to £38,700

How does this compare to the the US:

A spouse, in the UK from April 2024, the minimum income threshold is due to raise from £18600 ($23250) to £38700 ($48375).

In comparison, the current annual...

Re: SIPP distribution on death

Sorry for your husband's passing. When claiming off your husband's SS, you may need to consider, Government Pension Offset, or GPO, rather than WEP which I believe would only apply if claiming off...

Re: Relocating from UK to USA with 16 and 14

I would recommend looking into your 16 yr old attending a local community college for a couple of years and working toward his Associates Degree, before transferring to a decent 4 year university,...

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

Yes, I am aware of the extension to April 2023 of being able to buy years beyond the regular 6 years and indeed could buy additional years from 2009 to 2016. However, because I already have 30...

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

What you say appears to be correct. I have 30 years pre 2016, but unfortunately will only have 7 extra NI years at my retirement age of 66 next year, but require 8 extra years to gain the full new...

Re: Keeping a bank account in the UK

I agree with the comment about Santander, they will not let you use a US cell phone number to receive an OTP, and for a while now, do not let you even use an email address for an OTP to login online....

Re: How long do you need to pay Class II NI contributions for?

If you have 21 years already, as I stated earlier, I would only buy 9 more years pre 2016, as buying more will almost certainly not help you at all. Then as you say above, go ahead and buy 5 more...

Re: How long do you need to pay Class II NI contributions for?

Not quite, I am pretty sure that the pre 2016 years will only count towards the old full basic state pension of 30 qualifying years. More than 30 years pre 2016 will not necessarily benefit...

Re: How long do you need to pay Class II NI contributions for?

That is great news that they are allowing you to buy up to 15 years, especially at the NI class 2 rate.

I would send them a cheque but specify which years and how much for each of those years...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

Men born before 6 April 1951 can claim the older Basic State pension. Those born after 6 April 1951 apply for the New State Pension, of which Snagglepuss will only have a maximum of 30 years allowed,...
