Re: With how many months to go do you renew your US passport?

That's a good turnaround time frame - thanks. I don't really envisage any problems with having four months left on my return in November and was wondering how quickly I needed to renew. I doubted...

Re: Canning

I just called my mother who said she used to boil the jars before putting the hot jam or marmalade in. I quite like putting it in the boiling water bath as after they come out I can hear the lids of...

Canning

Canning appears to be a big hobby in the USA. After growing mounds of food you couldn't possibly eat, give to all your neighbors, friends and co workers, you can. Perhaps this is a more rural...

Re: Transferring GBP cheque to USA without UK bank account

I see Barclays will let you open a UK bank account as a non UK resident so long as you deposit £25K. However, I didn't think to ask my fathers solicitor to directly transfer. I will ask how much...

Re: What I like about America. [A politics-free thread]

For me it mostly comes down to personal space. I don't have to live cheek by jowl with neighbors. I can drive half an hour and be in total wilderness, yet have all the conveniences of metro living....

Sorry to hear you're in a similar spot. I think I was a little panicky about prices of airline tickets and too much time spent away from work. In the end neither was actually an issue. Wishing you...

Re: UK Expats to get vote for life

I don't think this is a wise move. I've been gone just over 15 years and couldn't decide on Brexit and I realized it was just as well I didn't have a vote.

The past is a foreign country, they do...
