It sounds like a real long shot to me.

Realistically nobody is going to go through the expense and effort of visa applications for a relatively junior position that they could fill anyway....

Thats pretty common. Often first interviews can be done over the phone, but final interviews are face to face. Maybe combine the interview with a holiday?

The US tries to avoid having too large a proportion of its greencard holders being from any one place - so adds extra quotas on them.

So unless you were born in China or India it isn't an issue.
