Re: POE via Dublin, Ire.

Did you decide to go via Dublin? There is an area for Global Entry, a section for US citizens, a section for ESTA travellers and a section for visa holders. Once you go through security there are...

Re: Recommended bank accounts

I pay my rent via Chase QuickPay to my landlord who banks with BoA. I think it's instant between Chase accounts, but not to other banks. It shows as 'pending' for anything up to 24 hours when I...

Re: Visa's approved. Thanks!

There's a very large Brit Facebook group I belong to that has regular get togethers, the vast majority are on L visas. Lots of online discussions on applying, receiving then job hunting!

Yes, the...

Re: VEX Robotics Competiton

My youngest loves VEX, he took part in the State Championships last year when he was in 7th grade. Most of the schools at State were high school, but his school took the top 5 championship places. He...

Re: Recommended bank accounts

We're HSBC Premier customers in the UK and set up a US account before we left. Walked into Chase the day after we landed with passports and copy of our residential lease. 40 minutes later we left...

Re: Chicago

Yes, I did a great ride from Oak Park via Andersonville and Caldwell Woods up to the Botanic Gardens last Spring.

Des Plaines River Trail and Salt Creek were both impassible yesterday. I'd need a...

Re: Visa's approved. Thanks!

I tend to stay away from commenting on this forum and leave it to the experts like Ian, but I do read it. In my smallish group of L2 friends (around 20), no one has been called to do biometrics for...

Re: Karma

Sorry to hear you were having a rough time, the messages I found made me smile too. Of course, I'm now in danger of checking obsessively!

Karma

How did I not know about this? To all the lovely people who've left me karma/kind comments over the past 2.5 years, thank you. I wasn't being ignorant :o

Is there a function to reply to them...

Re: So just how many miles do you do a year?

Yes, the replies surprised me too. Even though I live in a very walkable area with a comprehensive transit system, most of my friends drive, even very short distances. I expected more answers...

Re: So just how many miles do you do a year?

Nice set up. I've got an old beater as a winter commuter. The panniers on the back are enough for a Trader Joe's trip a few times a week.

Re: So just how many miles do you do a year?

I checked the odo earlier - 6319 miles in 15 months. It's our only car, just my daughter and me as drivers.

Lots of posts on here talk about doing so many more miles as a norm, but ours have...

Re: So, who has a boat and do you use it?

We left our 3 kayaks in the UK. I've hired one here on the Chicago River and may buy later in the year.

As a child we had boats - small power boat, a sailing dinghy and a catamaran. They were...

Re: So just how many miles do you do a year?

Yep, most of the miles on our car are my daughter driving to school if she's (who said deliberately?) late or if it's too cold for a 30 minute walk. My son used it for his 10 mile round trip to...

Re: So just how many miles do you do a year?

My Nissan X-Trail had 240,000 on it. New clutch, tyres, belt thingie, but ran like a dream until 10 days before we moved here. Turbo blew - it must have known we were leaving!

Husband did around...

Re: What's up with the Bread here?!!

We had a cheese market and attached cafe/restaurant within walking distance when we moved here. It was eye-wateringly expensive, but the quality and range was fabulous. The business changed when...

Re: What's up with the Bread here?!!

Our local Fresh Market had it (prepackaged) on their cheese counter once, along with Cheshire and Lancashire. We bought all they had; 6 packs of each, but they never stocked it again.

I'm...

So just how many miles do you do a year?

The driver control system on our MKX indicated a fault this morning so I took it along to the dealership to get in checked out. They couldn't believe there were less than 7000 miles on the clock....

Re: Chicago

I cycled from Niles (Amlings Bike Shop) into downtown Chicago last month. Seems like a nice enough town.

Re: Things to do in Chicago

Hancock v Willis - you can essentially go to the signature lounge of the Hancock Tower for free (their cocktails and mock-tails are worth trying). The 360 at the Hancock is a paid for experience as...
