If you don't have a work visa then presumably you don't have a Residency Card yet. That means you may not be covered for Medical Care if you were to need it as the first thing a Doctor / Dentist ask...

So he was in DBX to fly out and decided it wasn't worth the risk of not getting back in UAE? I can't seem to find anything official on it but I can certainly see it become a reality. Worrying for me...

I heard that people leaving the UAE for BKK etc last week were told by immigration on exit that they couldn't come back for 3 months. Can anybody validate that story or is it just an expat rumour!

To resurrect the original post as the OP ..... that new contract didn't renew and I continue to be on "Gardening Duties" in the UK. But this raises the question of the current visa becoming invalid....

Thanks for the replies. I remember having old passports with the corners cut out. Wasn’t sure how it works these days since my last passport is pushing 10 years ago.

Didnt know a UAE visa...

Visa wasn’t cancelled as follow on consultancy work was imminent.... but project still not kicked off!

Thanks Millhouse. Isn’t my old passport cancelled when UK Passport Office issue the new one? I was going to do it all online but perhaps if I visit one of the offices they can sort it.

I am currently in UK between work contracts and have a UAE Residency Visa in my UK passport. My passport has 6 months validity left on it, and my UAE visa 9 months.

If I renew my UK passport now...

A lot of positive comments on here to encourage you but my recent experience is a little less so! I have a similar background to you - oil industry / rotations / shit-pits. Actually met my wife here...

I'm afraid my 3g WiFi modem seems to throttle right down if I try to use a pesky VPN so BBC iPlayer isn't an option. Anybody know any (legal of course) streaming sites which are not location...

I claimed the VAT back on a laptop years ago when I was resident in Saudi but unfortunately the contract in UAE won’t last long enough for me to gain non residency from the UK and I am on rotation...

So if I buy a macbook or iPhone from the Apple Store in Dubai / Abu Dhabi it won't have Face Time but I can easily add it when back in UK (or using a VPN)? I seem to remember a couple of years ago...
