Re: Pound slumps again..

Don't worry, if Benny and his Squid boys can successfully short the crap out of gold, any currency's going to look good.

Re: Thinking of buying in Torrevieja

If possible rent, for at least the next 5 years.

Only unless someone puts a gun to your head, buy. Probably not what you want to hear but just because everything's on a fire sale in Spain doesn't...

Re: Why Spain is becoming an export powerhouse..

“Spain is turning into the next Germany”

What utter cr*p.

Where exactly is Spain's Mittelstand then? This is the same bureacratic Spain with its rigid labour laws and real estate debts we're...

Re: ADSL or Wireless thingy from nearby town?

Unfortunately this was not the case with us.

If you have a telephone and the local exchange is not overloaded then it is simple.

Movistar told us it was impossible to install ADSL at our house,...

Re: France squeezing Expats, who's next?

Most people would agree on your points John. This isn't an issue of wanting a lifestyle, it's an issue of being left alone by interfering governments.

France squeezing Expats, who's next?

Re: Advice needed

Somebody else told me about the EU rights. I wanted to confirm it before going to the agent and being that guy spouting his rights to the locals who couldn't care less.

Re: Advice needed

I've been using Orange contrato 10Gb/mes but I need 30gb+ a month to do my work. The line however is reliable and would be great the day I can get good bandwidth on one of these things. Unless...

Re: Advice needed

It's a worthy warning to all prospective tenants and buyers that we both checked the property address on Movistar website and verified availability with the agent. Beyond that what are you supposed...

Re: Advice needed

The two non-fixed line alternatives:
- Satellite: The local satellite provider offers 1MBps for a rather expensive package (Orange mobile is better)
-WIMAX: doesn't cover here.

Third alternative...

Re: Advice needed

Looking into it now. Wimax would be preferable due to ping times vs Satellite. I've tried contacting Wimax providers here before but no reply from any of them . Any recommendations?

Re: Advice needed

Same here, agent told us we could get 6MB internet in the property.

I am currently using a mobile wifi router but 10G/m (on Orange @ 35E/m) isn't nearly enough bandwidth for work. I'd need a...

Unhappy Advice needed

So today, after a long wait for ADSL, the Telefonica engineer finally shows up at our house. He pokes around for a few minutes, says he'll be back in "5 minutos" and then never returns.

According...

Re: Savers in Cyprus have to chip in for bailout, will it happen in Spain

The value of expat assets in European accounts in Cyprus & Spain must be less than 1% of the daily value of speculated transactions on currencies. It will be a drop in the ocean. Long term GBP will...

Re: Can ANYONE save me from this gloom?

Australia is an amazing place. And guess what, so is Spain! Both are great places to live. Australia being a great place to live doesn't detract anything from Spain.

Desperate governments in desperate times
