Re: Walkabout

Hi, thanks for the reply,

That did spring to mind, I wonder if I could use a deposit box at my bank. Early days, just wondered if anyone else has done this.

After the whole covid thing I'm thinking of selling up and go a bit 'Jack Reacher', meaning just hitting the Greyhounds and exploring the country. As...

Re: Hiring Spoof

Hi THT, this is for a technical consultant role, so one of the main skills was communications, the interviewee was very good, the person I just on boarded had little skill here. I have been told the...

Re: Hiring Spoof

Thanks Pulaski,

My issue is that I work for a European company, when I mention hire at will, they recoil.... At a base level (being a cynic) it seems to me that the guy who I 'hired' passed off...

Hiring Spoof

Hello, just a question, it maybe should be in the Trailer Park.

So, I have recently been asked to hire people in the US. I did an interview with a candidate (who was great). When I started the...

Re: What will be our biggest challenges when we relocate to NJ

Jerseygirl Yes, they did me too, they were very good, I even had a lawyer ring me up prior to my last interview to go through all the documents I had to check, felt about 6 years old :-)

Re: What will be our biggest challenges when we relocate to NJ

I honestly have no knowledge of your circumstances, but it sound to me you have one of those rare ex-pat packages (In fact my company no longer offers them) If you can I would grab it with both...

Re: What will be our biggest challenges when we relocate to NJ

Oh, one other thing, based on what you have said, I'm guessing they will pay for a relocation package, i.e shipping your home goods to the US, just make sure that works if they want to send you back....

Re: What will be our biggest challenges when we relocate to NJ

Sorry, never fully answered your question, was sent over in 2012 on an E1, got the company to agree to sponsor a GC a few years later, and now have had it for a few years ( I was lucky, got it just...

Re: What will be our biggest challenges when we relocate to NJ

Honestly, the transition is easy (caveat, I have no experience with getting children in school, though what I have picked up here it shouldn't be an issue) I can only speak of NOVA here, my only...

Re: What will be our biggest challenges when we relocate to NJ

Sounds like you have the same sort of package I came across with, just for confirmation, are they also including utility's? I did not come with children, but that expat deal should allow you to save...

Re: How are Brits generally seen in the US job market?

Horses for courses. I'm, among other things, 'a' hiring manager for a multinational defense contractor. I no longer look at academic qualifications, they tend to be overblown and, how can I say,...

Re: l1b to l1a transfer

Hello,
My company also uses Fragomen and they dealt with my GC application from an E1. I would say, in general, they are quite good but as has been mentioned, they can drop the ball. In my case I...

Re: how is online schooling going?

Sorry, I may have been unclear, there is absolutely no link between the two. My first question was about the perceived impact of ethnicity to ability, the other was meant to be a lighthearted...

Re: how is online schooling going?

Serious question, what has his ethnicity got to do with his ability to do the job? Or is it a bandwagon you jumped on with the Duke of Sussex?

Having gained so much useful information from this forum I thought I would recount my experience (or as much as I can remember) of getting to PR status.

First a bit of background and...
