Working on a dependent pass

Hi everyone,

I have an urgent query I hope someone can answer by tomorrow if possible.

Re: Potential Move to KL

Hi LivKL, I wondered if I could pick your brain about a dependent pass-related issue. I'm on one, and am in a position to potentially take a job here in Malaysia, however the company has apparently...

Re: Questions regarding Employment Pass (Work Permit) and Dependent Pass.

OK, a few things.

First of all, no success - they wouldn't let me apply for it for myself, said the company has to do it for me. Crock of crap. Another spouse I know did his own just before...

Re: Questions regarding Employment Pass (Work Permit) and Dependent Pass.

Are you absolutely sure it's necessary? I'm going tomorrow, WITHOUT a certified copy, having read this on immigration website:

Proof of relationship with the Expatriate (a translated copy has...

Re: Utilities cost?

Well we turned the aircon off this month, except for emergencies (just back from gym, etc!) and got the bill today - it was half last month's. And we have brand new ducted aircon, so i'm not that...

Re: Utilities cost?

Baked Bean, you are a legend! It says E! So happy right now (yes, quiet day). Many, many thanks! :D

Oops, on second look, part of it is E, but the other part is N. Still, great to know, thanks.

Re: Utilities cost?

Thanks BB. Yes, I spent friday night on google translate with several bills! Bill seems to be for the past two months. As to whether it's an estimate, not sure... flat was empty before we moved in...

Thanks AJW. We're only 2, so I'm going to get it checked out. Sigh. Dreading that palaver already.

Re: Utilities cost?

We've just got first bills - bit shocked at RM925 for two months of electricity! Especially when it's fan only at night (1 room), and air con during the day never below 24C. More expensive than UK!...

Re: Broadband connection

You could always buy the modem as well and use it while you wait. I bought a dongle, and while that itself is cheap, and the cost of buying the passes is ok (not that great), I just tore through the...

Re: Broadband connection

Hi Froggy - I got the same thing but I'd already read up on it so I just kept saying 'no, the unlimited downloads and fibre optic!' over and over! There's obviously some sweetener in it for them to...

Re: Broadband connection

We signed up with Maxis and it took just under 3 weeks (fibre optic). I work from home too, so I used a Maxis dongle (expensive) and lived in Starbucks (free!) during that time. They were even giving...

Re: Things to take and things to leave

We moved into a large unfurnished apartment. Many of the ones I looked at were unfurnished - certainly all the brand new ones - or had minimal furniture.
We're used to living in fully furnished...

I'd also appreciate any recommendations for real estate agents. We've been looking at iproperty, but it all becomes a bit of a blur so personal recommendations would be really useful. We...

Re: British citizen to marry a Muslim Malaysian in Malaysia

PS - re your fiance's travel itinerary, if by this you mean her flight to the UK to settle, you really shouldn't book travel until you've got the visa.

Re: British citizen to marry a Muslim Malaysian in Malaysia

Hi there,
I think you've got unnecessary info, and not some crucial things. You don't need venue booking notices and the like when you're already married. You DO need proof of adequate...

Yes I should say that we don't have kids yet, and I can work FT but flexible hours from home if necessary. So no offence intended.
I'm also looking forward to language classes, lunches, and...

Re: What to do in Malaysia

Ha, yeah I was scratching my head over marketing too!

I noticed full-time work wasn't on the original list of wifely options. I must be a really bad wife because that's what I plan on doing.

Re: Moving to KL in August - British Expats to Share With?

Sharing sounds like a good idea, although it also seems pretty easy to make friends - busy social scene by the sounds of it!

I'm a writer and editor, so I can work from pretty much anywhere as a...

Re: Moving to KL in August - British Expats to Share With?

Haha, yes there is sun! We're not sure about where we'll live - but somewhere between KLCC and Kota Damansara. We've got two weeks to look around when we get there. I look at iproperty.com.my all the...
