Thanks BB. I'm not 100% sure about the visa. All plans have been thrown up in the air right now. 2 weeks ago I was advised that my post is being made redundant - unless company can find me 'suitable alternative employment (unlikely given that there are 30 of us in the same boat) then it will happen on 1st August. My wife flew back to Malaysia this afternoon and will be there for a month before I join her for 2 weeks. In that time, her brother is going to transfer some land to her and she will then be getting some quotes from architects in Melaka. She is also going to be enquiring about restaurants and hotels that are for sale.

Although I have had one external job interview already, with another next week, I am keeping all of my options open at the moment but retirement is a strong pull and there is a distinct possibility I will take retirement now, as I have a couple of pensions that should be able to keep us going over the next 12 months if we move to Malaysia in a couple of months or so. Put our house here up for rent and potentially use part of my lump sum and savings to both build our house and start a small business. A lot will depend on the requirements of the Long Stay Visit Visa v MM2H - our preference is the former, but we will wait and see.

If we stay here into November, we will have to hand more dosh over to the Government as my wife will have to apply for ILR, so time is of the essence as they say!

Bear in mind, for MM2H, you need to show 3 months of bank statements (current statements) showing offshore income (Uk or wherever) of equiv RM 10,000+ per month. A lot of folks get the visa while they are still working. Timing may be important I guess. Anyway.... you might get the other visa I guess.

Thanks for the info. Hope everything will be fine. Will be arriving in KL early Sept.
