You are quite right about the brackets Alan and the post should read 'not taxed on rental income here in Australia 'but of course subject to UK tax. Thanks for helpful advice.

Friend in remission now-thank goodness. I didn't question sickness entitlement tho and went back to check my wage slip. I have only had to have a week off with flu but it did make me think tho .....
