Re: First UK passport application for dual citizens

Re: Anyone flown to the UK recently

It’s a bit confusing but I agree with your interpretation. However I went onto the home office web chat a couple of months ago to ask specifically if I could just add an ETA to my Canadian passport...

Re: Non-European/Non-British Passport Holders require ETA from 8th Jan 2025

I have been visiting the UK over the past few years travelling on my Canadian passport - there is no requirement for a citizen to enter on their British one. As none of us have the intention of...

Re: Non-European/Non-British Passport Holders require ETA from 8th Jan 2025

The guidance says that if you are a dual citizen then you need to demonstate your right to abode in the UK (ie no requirement for the ETA) either through your British passport or with a certificate...

Re: Solar Panels In Canada/Alberta

We have them mounted on our roof - we are in Ontario and got into a program called MicroFit where we sell our electricity back to the grid for a lot more than we pay for it. We have had them for 7...

Re: Double taxation

I agree it certainly does suggest you can send it in early (and it makes sense to do so) however the letter I received told me you can't and the phone call reinforced that position. I think it took...

Re: Double taxation

That could explain it. When I called I did get out through to a supervisor so I think the answer I got was correct for my situation. I don’t have any additional UK income.

Re: Double taxation

I phoned them to confirm as I understood that you could send it in early from the information accompanying the form. I was told I had to wait until after it was paid and then claim the money back and...

Re: Double taxation

Apparently you need to wait until you actually have the pension before filling out the form. I tried to get ahead of the game by getting the form all completed just before the pension was paid out. I...

Re: Car insurance, oh no!

As already mentioned there are some companies that will take your UK driving history into account, but you might as well accept that you are going to pay more. Do not get any tickets because they...

Re: Canada's Mennonites

Why? We deal with them quite a bit as they own a lot of the farm supply businesses in the area. We have found them great to deal with. Also the horse and buggy parking lot in the local hospital...

Re: Top 10 Best Places to Live in Canada - Moving Waldo

I spent a winter in Deep River, actually about 20km outside of it (Deep River was the big city compared to where we were) - my husband spent longer as he worked there for about 18 months. I can't...

Re: Finding a rental from UK

Be really careful, there are a lot of scams around the rental market. To secure a place you will be required to send some money in advance, it's a risk!
