Re: Moving to Hamilton

I lived in Hamilton for a year when I landed in Canada, the geography is a bit weird since there's a large escarpment dividing the city in two (it rises about 100 meters at a 45 degree angle) living...

Re: 7 weeks till we fly - eeeek - so many questions

We gave up on getting an HSBC in Canada, even with UK accounts with them it was a hassle trying to getting it set up. Ended up walking into a TD and getting set up on the spot.

A good bit of...

Re: BC drinkers getting ripped off on pints.

It's weird because it's only certain spirits (Gin, Rum, Vodka and Whiskey) they have to be 25ml. But any other spirits could be more or could be less.

There's also the regular "proper" pint...

Re: BC drinkers getting ripped off on pints.

In North America it's US pints and gallons (473ml and 3785ml)
In Blightey it's Imperial pints and gallons (568ml and 4546ml)

Same is true with gas/petrol, I'm sure it's America's fault somehow....

Re: Getting married in UK to Canadian

It was a couple of years ago and my memory is foggy, but I remember having to arrange an appointment with my local council and show that it wasn't a sham marriage before we could get "approved".
We...

Re: Canadian Experience !!!

If you've got a trade try to pick up any work related to your field, even if it's just a one-off job from Kijiji. If you work for a decent person who see's you working well don't be afraid to ask...

Re: Any advice on finding a job in the "Hospitality" trade?"

Bit of an update......

While wondering around the Pride festivities I got chatting to a guy I'd done a bit of work for in the past and he offered me some bussing shifts on the spot.
Lets just say...

Re: Any advice on finding a job in the "Hospitality" trade?"

It's hard to dumb down my CV though, with the job titles I have had and the fact that I don't fit into any of the traditional Canadian roles makes it tricky.
I am putting myself out there and...

Re: Babymetal will rock your world

Their whole album is awesome as well.
The shoegazing indie thing always annoyed me a bit, sometimes I want to just shake them by the shoulders and tell them to cheer up (Thom York especially)....
