Re: Did anyone move back and have regrets?

I moved back to the UK 2 years ago, after 14 years in Calgary, because I felt the UK suited me better than Canada. I also wanted to be closer to friends and family.

Regrets:
I could have been...

Re: Back ten months. No happier. (Sorry !)

I went to the bank last week to get pre-approved for a mortgage (a decision in principle). This is motivated mostly by the thought of grabbing a fixed rate before interest rates rise. I don't feel...

Re: Homesickness. What is it?

I think it's imprinting. Like ducklings imprinting on their mothers. In my case, I felt very attached to the Lake District. I think this attachment formed as that area was where I first felt a sense...

Re: Why did you leave Canada to move back to the UK

Wouldn't treating people equally, regardless of nationality, race, gender etc be a better way of fighting back against discrimination?

I hope you have better luck in future, whichever country you...

Re: Why did you leave Canada to move back to the UK

After 14 years in Calgary I gave up skiing and then felt stuck in the city for half the year. I thought the British countryside suited me better than the dense forests. I also felt too isolated from...

Re: Moving back to the UK from BC (victoria)

I'm just recommending a shipping company by the way. I'm not recommending moving from Calgary to Manchester!

Shipped from Calgary to Manchester.

Re: Moving with pets, or not

Bring your dogs. I did. The flight was not a problem. I found a place to rent that accepted pets.

Dogs are loyal to us. We should be loyal to them.

Re: Back ten months. No happier. (Sorry !)

To me, it feels like we have gone straight from autumm to spring!

We did see some skiers in the lake district one day. Here in Lancashire there was one day when the village pond was iced over and...

Re: WildfireV2's questions about whether life in Canada is better?

Try Canada. Your current situation is not a disadvantage, as you are free to leave. You have nothing to lose.

If you want to try changing career too, your accounting knowledge can still be useful...

Re: Back ten months. No happier. (Sorry !)

I have been feeling more settled in England since the new year. It feels like spring already, with birds tweeting and so much greenery. I have had a job since May last year. Nyla takes me out every...

Re: Back ten months. No happier. (Sorry !)

Yesterday, looking out over Ullswater, with sunlight on the lakes and hills, I felt I should stay in England.

Today, back in Lancashire, it seems old. I am not sure it could ever be home.

My...

Re: Moving back to the UK from BC (victoria)

Starline were good value and very professional when I moved from Calgary to the UK last year.

Re: going home back to the UK

Starline were good. Half the price of some other companies we have used before, but the staff and packing were just as good. I would happily use them again.

Re: Nyla

I do have a companion that I confide in but it is difficult to get her opinion because her English is extremely limited: mostly 'sit', 'stay', heel' and 'dinner time'.

I share some thoughts with...

Re: Nyla

No. Sorry! I'm just dithering because I want 3 different places. (The Lake District, the south west and Calgary. And possibly Portugal too, as I have been missing sunshine). As long as I put off...

Re: Yet another "Should we move ..." question

Is Canada possible?

Calgary has a good variety of people from all over the world. It's a nice city, not too big, not too small. There are ranches and trail riding outfits, but without the gun...

Re: Nyla

I chose the north west because it's close enough to the lake district for day walks and to Scotland for weekends. We could also afford to buy a place in the north west whereas that might not be...

Re: Back ten months. No happier. (Sorry !)

But I use Asda home delivery! I sit on the sofa with Nyla and we choose all our food, with no rain at all. I have completely missed the point haven't I?

Leaving Canada did feel slightly like...

Re: Un-happy in Canada!

I moved back to the UK ten months ago after 14 years in Calgary. I had holidays in the UK each of the last 5 years and I was sure I would feel happier back in the UK. I'm not. Moving makes things...

Nyla

My dog Nyla has had a lot to adapt to after our move from Calgary.

She was fascinated to find a hedgehog. Perhaps she thought it was a baby porcupine.

She spent some time leaning over a wall to...
