Re: crunch time Spain vs UK

What's worrying is the state of your physical and mental health as you describe it in your post.

I do think its this aspect of the dilemma that you find yourself in that needs to be addressed as...

Re: I wonder how many people want to move back but can't afford to..

We've had to financially plan very carefully before moving back permanently and after seven years of working and saving, I think we've finally made it!

It hasn't been easy. There were so many...

Re: Very pleasantly surprised.

Love it!
Actually, I do get what you're saying here Bud and while I too am ecstatic at being home (for the summer), its fascinating to here the 'godzoners', wax madly lyrical on here whilst the...

Re: big decision

Its a difficult one you've got there! But to answer your question (though not in the same circumstances as yours I have to say), I'd take a chance and come home to stay.

Reason? You've already...

Re: Dubai v Kuwait

Kuwait is dusty , prone to suffocating sand storms and while good for saving your hard earned - that's because there's nothing much to actually do here!

Dubai is far more vibrant, much less dusty...

Re: Qatar International School

Hmmmm. The two you mention have had problems and a fair number of management problems over the last few years.

The students are largely Qatari and not international - and that does make a huge...

Re: Qatar International School

Its normal for the gratuity to be based on the basic pay. All international schools/colleges do the same so I wouldn't worry.

You'll be able to save a little there - but QIS isn't the best paying...

Re: The UK aint that bad really

Think some of us have a nomad gene!

Seriously, look back in history and we are a race of wanderers constantly hopping on boats to cross the North Sea or Channel, happily putting down roots in...

Re: The UK aint that bad really

I've been working overseas for a number of years now and have found that most ex-pats fall into one of two categories.

Those who are running away from something. Those who are seeking a bit of an...

Re: So why did you really return... for the place or the people

Not quite back yet - but soon (if all goes to plan).

And in answer to the question I suppose its both really.

The place is home. The UK is where my roots are and for such a small island it has...

Re: Moving back to UK - selling my house after returning and Capital Gains Tax

You have a tax allowance each year. If the annual rent doesn't go above your tax allowance, then you won't pay any income tax for the fiscal year.

As you work overseas, I don't think you are...

Re: How bad is Doha?

We worked in Doha for five years and for the most part, enjoyed our time there. Yes, it can get dull and yes, it can sometimes feel like groundhog day there but in that time we saved enough cash to...

Re: Think very carefully

One of the things I notice when we go home is that I have to mentally adjust from working in a society where everything is highly dependent upon not upsetting anyone, being constantly polite and...

Re: Think very carefully

What's happened to you Mr Hyde? I detect (from the tone of your posts) that you've had a pretty rough time of it since coming home and I'm very sorry to hear that.

If you feel comfortable with it,...

Re: Back in uk 6months after 6 years in Aus perth/adelaide now confused

Six months isn't very long - I'd give it more time particularly as its the grimmest part of the year just now what with winter in full swing.

Maybe, you've outgrown your home town? We decided not...

Re: After almost a decade.....

There's a lot of truth in what you say Victor. I too love the UK and hopefully, will be returning for good this summer yet (like everywhere else) there are down sides as well as up sides to this.

Re: STRESSED! Venting (Sorry!!)

Give the rellies a call. Mail, text, phone, whatever suits. You need to prepare them first though - don't just announce your intentions, lay the groundwork first and build up to asking them or better...

Re: Blighty and Benefit

It looks like we could be returning permanently this summer (at last!) after several years working overseas. We're lucky, as its something that's been planned for, saved hard for and therefore...

Re: Kuwait job offer

We're in Kuwait and have also worked in Doha for several years. If I had a choice between the two I'd go for Doha definitely rather than Kuwait. As another poster said this place is one big dust...

Re: Which is the Best Places in UK?

There's no 'best place', in the UK. There are many, many places where (depending upon your particular preferences) you could feel happy though.

What are you hoping for on your return? More...

Awwww! Know the feeling! I'm excited too as we get to meet our very first grandchild this Christmas - born at the end of August, just a few days after we returned overseas to our jobs here.

I...

Re: New Malden, Surrey

Parking fees can be outrageous, particularly town centre, multi-storey parking in cities. A four hour stop in a central Manchester car park last summer cost us 12 quid and a similar amount was very...

Re: What makes for a successful move back to the UK?

We've spent the last three years setting everything up for a return to the UK and as teachers, get to spend each summer and Christmas back home - so I suppose we're 'half way', there but not fully...
